We're pleased to announce the pre-sale of a release that you've all been waiting for! No, it's not Chinese Democracy or Rhidian Roberts' fresh muck but the wonderful debut album from 'Sleeps In Oysters' on Seed Records with the rather extravagant title:
'We kept the memories locked away like the beetles of or childhood, or How to appreciate someone who is always around'
You won't have seen nor heard anything like it - it's the perfect stocking filler and this is the tech spec to prove it: 250 limited editionmini-album CD and 5 bespoke postcards parcelled in paper, tied with string and sealed with wax, housed in individually handmade fabric sleeves, lovingly embroidered and uniquely numbered. Priced from £7.99 to £8.99 (it'll be crazy prices in the real shops) delivered to your doorstep anywhere in the world and containing a bonus track, ‘The birds, the bees, the bells and Richard Brautigan’ not available as an MP3 download.
"Experimental Record of the Month: 5/5 " - Mixmag "Freak-folk electronics...Link of the Day" - The Wire "A beautiful, beautiful thing" - Stuart Maconie, 6 Music 'Freak Zone'
A video link shot, produced and directed by Paul Hearn also shows you how it is made...(at 5 times the actual speed) and can be found at the bottom of this page. A competition will be being run to win number 251 via the Sleeps In Oysters mailinglist shortly. More on this to follow.
Sleeps In Oysters are the sound of a ne plus ultra granny's strawberry alarm-clock going off under her tie-dyed wig or for the aurally impaired, the colour splash of a fruit farm sliding down a rainbow into a exotic lagoon lit with fireflies and as seen through a kaleidoscope. It is music made with levers, by little people, flowers, bugs, steam and rusty toys all sprinkled with fairy dust and brought to life under a very special magical spell...and this, by the way, only happens once in a lifetime when the weather is just right.
Their debut album is on pre-sale direct from us now (and why not get a t-shirt while you're at it, fuel bills have gone through the roof lately - put the t-shirt on the fire and use it as fuel!) with an official street date of the 24th November when it will be available in tiny quantities at all good record stores and in digital format via Bleep and Beatport.
I wouldn't hesitate too much, umming and ahhing over the global recession as this is a serious investment that's sure to rocket given the current interest in the band. The've recently performed live on Tom Ravenscroft's and Hermeet Chadha's, Channel 4 NMD no less, Diesel-U-Music and with the likes of Efterklang and Dans Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip. But, hey, don't take out word for it, take theirs:
"Avant folktronica...admirably adventurous" - Time Out "Post-Aphex beauty" - Plan B
"Excellent. Love everything about it, except the food coverage (?)" - The Organ
"Thought-provoking...Fans of Animal Collective, Four Tet and Psapp won't be disappointed" -BBC online "They have a sound infused with Broadcast, Four Tet, a less arrogant Regina Spektor, maybe even Pram" - Dan Le Sac, Sunday Best
"A highly pleasant release...if there was a prize for packaging your release, then Seed Records would be the award winner" - Vital Weekly
