Dead Pixels are a new band from very diverse backgrounds including Egypt, France, Denmark and the UK. Enigmatic lead singer, Danish Lone Blomhoj, is something of a young Bjork; beguiling and charming, her esoteric voice is one moment soft and the next minute escalating into full throttle octave-hopping. Upcoming debut single 'Words are poison/So you say' sounds like Depeche Mode and Siouxsie and the Banshees. It’s industrial electro-pop that bangs like an old factory door. 'Words Are Poison' rekindles the 80's post-punk era by combining Lone’s urgent vocals with thrashing drums and a progressive chorus. This is an epic, yet lo-fi pop gem. Female angst dominates the lyrics of b-side 'So you say' (produced by Sneaker Pimps’ Liam Howe) shows the hallmarks of wear 'n' ear in a relationship from one too many excuses "It’s quite simple really" says Lone "you know when its just never going to change and you want that person to get the hell out"… It's a feeling a lot of us can understand, but not many of us can sum it up in a four minute sonic argument of pounding guitars and electronic mish-mash. Add to that The Rakes drummer Lasse Petersen who makes a guest appearance to layer the electronic beats with his trademark thumping live percussion and Dead Pixels sound harder, faster and moodier than ever before.
Producer and lead guitarist Graeme discovered Lone singing in a clothes shop where she worked. He quickly tricked her into joining the band by persuading her to sing on a few demo tracks he was working on. After introducing her to bassist Peter, they shaped the beginnings of a band later known as Dead Pixels. Dead Pixels will be playing a host of UK and European dates throughout 2008. http://www.myspace.com/deadpixelsmusic | |
