Akron/Family and Dead Oceans Plot World Domination for 2009

We are extremely proud to announce that Dead Oceans will be teaming up with Akron/Family in 2009 for their first release since their epic 2007 album "Love is Simple". Following two albums, a collaborative work with jazz masters Hamid Drake and William Parker ("Meek Warrior") and a split EP on the venerable Young God label, we could not be more excited that one of our favorite bands, new or old, will be joining the Dead Oceans roster.

Akron/Family is Seth Olinsky, Dana Janssen and Miles Seaton and is currently in the midst of editing and mixing a new LP for release in spring 2009. We will provide more info on this masterpiece-in-progress soon.

The band is also planning a short run of late-December tour dates, culminating in a very special performance at the Knitting Factory in New York City on New Years Eve. This is the last show ever at the legendary venue’s Manhattan location, and the club has chosen the perfect band to close them out with a bang.

Read on to see what others have said about Akron/Family:

"They really PLAY together, truly messing with sound...Deep musical connection and skill...ild, instinctual experimentalism (Zep style wig-outs and shamanic incantations)...Heady, bodily, beautiful stuff." – MOJO

...now roaming all over a wide, open space where antique folk balladry, primal drone and explosive improvisation meet and melt in a woodland psychedelia that answers an age-old musical question: What if Pink Floyd gave birth to Ummagumma in the Band's basement at Big Pink?” – Rolling Stone

“An absurd and occasionally awkward celebration of humanity, love, and the natural world, Love Is Simple is Akron/Family's bold, unvarnished paean to discovering god within nature, through a fusion of drum-circle bliss, religious signifiers, and classic rock.” – Pichforkmedia.com

“Flaring with random ecstasies, the Brooklyn-based quartet morph wildly from all-over electric splatter to oak-hued jangle to an Arkestral freeform cheer squad.” – LA Weekly

“Akron/Family is writing a 21st century non-denominational hymnal, free of any New Age stink or hippie laziness… Their constant desire to obliterate the line between audience/consumer and performer/musician shares something with the Dead, Phish and others who've introduced participatory elements into the mix. However, those bands rarely gave so freely or vigorously to those who stood before them. Akron/Family are a very special band and you cheat yourself with every minute you wait to wade into their waters.” – Jambase

Tour Dates:
Dec. 28 Boston, MA – TT the Bears
Dec. 29 Burlington, VT – Higher Ground
Dec. 31 New York, NY – The Knitting Factory
