Early Bird Tickets now on general sale
Early Bird Tickets are now available for Summer Sundae Weekender 2009 until April 30th 2009.
Summer Sundae Weekender 2008 was a hit! Perfect planning and a high calibre eclectic mix of bands and performers meant that good times and a brilliant atmosphere prevailed at Leicester’s very own urban festival with a rural heart! The media certainly thought so, The Independent called it an ‘unfailingly hip festival”, while the Guardian Guide said “you can genuinely say that there's something for everybody here”, and The Fly can’t wait to get back here next year: ‘Summer Sundae leaves a brimming sense of joy and an impatience for next year’s festival to begin”!Not only that, an increased capacity meant that Summer Sundae Weekender 2008 was the most highly attended event yet!
Alongside the high calibre of headliners that included Macy Gray, Simian Mobile Disco and Supergrass (or Superbgrass as Adam and Joe dubbed them), The EFestivals Comedy Tent kept everyone laughing, A spoken word set from Henry Rollins ensured everyone kept it real, and our friends at Drowned in Sound curated a fantastic Friday (which saw Noah and The Whale play one of the most memorable sets in SSW history) as well as broadcasts from BBC6music that included Adam and Joe, Stephen Merchant and Hub Sessions galore! Honourable mentions must go to The Rising Stage for unswerving dedication to the cutting edge of new music and The Musician Stage which explored the roots of everything Blues, Folk and Americana.
There has never been a better time to attend Summer Sundae Weekender, as the strength of the pound dwindles, individuals and family’s are being priced out of foreign travel and are looking to take more holidays at home this year, at only £92 an adult ticket or at £159 for 1 adult and 2 children for a weekend of alterative music and big act headliners and fun for the whole family.
Furthermore, as well as offering a quality range of foods from around the world, not to mention the real ales and cocktails (all reasonably priced) throughout the site. Accommodation’s a snip too, Secure camping costs less than £7 for the entire weekend, and because of its location, Summer Sundae Weekender is arguably the most accessible (just 1 hour from St Pancras and Sheffield) and environmentally friendly festival in the UK.
Indeed, building on the success of 2006 and 2007, when, respectively, Summer Sundae Weekender was bestowed the ‘Best Small Festival’ and the Red Kite’ award at the UK Festival Awards in recognition of the all efforts that went into making it the UK’s first carbon negative festival. In the 2008 awards they were again nominated for the Best Family Festival and Best Small Festival awards..
Summer Sundae Weekender has always been pro-active about environmental issues and in 2008 they went one step further. Local energy experts from Leicester's Energy Efficiency Advice Centre calculated the total emissions created over the course of the festival. The results that followed allowed festival-goers the opportunity to effect an environmental change by being part of the solution. From a partnership with Sustrans – a leading cycling charity, to onsite vendors that were powered by reconstituted cooking oil and handing out energy saving lightbulbs to motorists in order to offset their emissions, every aspect was thought out and planned to the smallest detail to make Summer Sundae Weekender quite literally, the only festival that redeems itself year on year.
Summer Sundae Weekender 2009 is set to be the most exciting yet so book your Early Bird Tickets now (prices valid until 30th April). Go to Summer Sundae Weekender for further information.
