Released on Asthmatic Kitty - 23rd March 2009
After capturing our attention with their curiously intriguing yet undoubtedly brilliant debut single ‘No Wedding cake’, Californian Fol Chen are heading back to the UK and to wet your appetite, their eagerly awaited return will be preceded this March with new single ‘Cable TV’.
Choosing to hide their identity in all press shots by covering their faces with masks, the band have built up a reputation for being fairly mysterious. Despite this, some of their faces will be familiar to live audiences after previous tours as members of similarly esoteric experimental punksters ‘Liars’. However, with this record they look set to come out of hiding and ruffle a few feathers…
Urgently bouncing out of the starting blocks, the new single is as quick to infect your system as a dose of Sunshine on a July day and will leave you feeling just as euphoric. As catchy a refrain as you can hope to find, the tune is a sure fire cure for the winter blues and will easily push you out of hibernation and into the spring.
‘Cable TV’ has already resonated through the ears of America via the medium of popular culture having appeared in cult TV drama ‘Noahs ark’ (due to hit our screens later this year - think Sex and the city crossed with Queer as folk).
The utterly delightful Fol Chen release their debut album on 16th March 2009 and it’s a quite brilliant and inspired debut ‘Part I: John Shade, Your Fortune's Made’. A gloriously quirky collection of 10 songs oozing with wit and charm, it’s full of clever, witty, off kilter lyrics and blissful melodies that twist and turn throughout. Accompanied by heavy bass drums, fanciful horn sections and jingle bells thrown in for good measure.
Be sure to check out this band when they hit our shores later in the spring. You can also see the brillant video to 'No Wedding Cake' here http://asthmatickitty.com/news.php?newsID=388which includes singing fish and polar bears!
