Clint Mansell has renewed his partnership with director Darren Aronofsky for the score to award-winning film The Wrestler.Opening in the UK last week, The Wrestler has won plaudits around the world, not least for Mansell's delicate theme, that frames with great realism life beyond the ring for Mikey Rourke's character Randy 'The Ram' Robinson.
The eight-minute piece features Slash on guitar and will be available exclusively from iTunes on the 19th January, before a general digital release on 26th January on Black Records.
The Wrestler is the latest piece from the former Pop Will Eat Itself frontman, now based in Los Angeles, who has garnered a reputation as an esteemed composer amongst American independent film-makers. His unique approach to composing combined with the success and acclaim of his scores, has quickly made him an in-demand composer.
A chance introduction to Darren Aronofsky in NYC led to Mansell's film score debut, the independent movie, Pi (1998). This director-composer union continued with Aronofsky's ambitious follow-up, Requiem for a Dream (2000), his score for Aronofsky's The Fountain in 2006 prompted a Golden Globe nomination.
'Clint has just completed the score for Duncan Jones' directorial debut Moon, starring Sam Rockwell - due for release later this year.
