TERRY LYNN RELEASES DEBUT SINGLE 'KINGSTONLOGIC'

Released on Phree Music on 23rd March 2009

“Top 10 Hot New Acts for 2009” SUNDAY TIMES CULTURE

A passionately furious, playful and snarling polemic from the streets of Waterhouse (“a place well known as a slaughterhouse”), the impoverished neighbourhood in Kingston 11, which sets the stage for Terry Lynn's entrance to the world.

‘Kingstonlogic’ throws dub, techno, electro, reggae and rap into a blender from which Terry Lynn dips her pen, to weave a rapid-fire story through the streets of Kingston's problematic gun culture and it's residents' struggle for survival and escape. She chooses to play on the lyrical flow of Daft Punk's ‘Technologic’ for which the French duo gave their blessing, as she metaphorically takes on the illogical politics of poverty and violence with an electro-reggae mallet, and while challenging the sound of Jamaica itself.

A genuinely innovative, and thrillingly fresh debut single for an artist whose distinctive anti-establishment approach as a voice for the poor, has just changed the sound of the island forever,

Two of the mixes come via one of UK’s most in-demand production teams, Greenmoney (Kanye West, Yo Majesty, Amp Fiddler), along with London's Virgil Howe (aka. Sparro) to add a whole new dimension to Terry Lynn's gattlin gun delivery previously captured on the album’s Angry mix, by France's Olivier Giacomotto.

In creating the first experimental video for Kingston Logic 1.0, producer Russell ‘phred’ Hergert connected Lynn’s lyrics to a rapidly-changing series of Afflicted Yard photographs depicting various realities of life in modern Kingston. In version 2.0, the colourful frenzy of Kingston and the collaboration of Lynn, phred and The Rickards Bros. returns on beats created by the top 10 Beatport charting, French producer Olivier Giacomotto.

The video was screened for the first time last Saturday to an audience in Waterhouse, Kingston (where the entire video was shot). See it at the link below
