..from Belgium to Africa
They’re one of the most distinctly English-sounding bands around, but this Spring see Tunng involved in a couple of collaborations that stretch from Belgium to Africa...
TUNNG / SOY UN CABALLO 'Robin' single:
The group's latest single (out 23rd March) sees the London-based band hooking up with some like-minded souls from Belgium, the hotly tipped Soy Un Caballo. Released exclusively on gold 7” vinyl, this extra-special limited single has Tunng’s version of Soy Un Caballo’s Robin on the A-side, with the band’s original version on the flip.
“We met Soy Un Caballo on tour in Belgium and France and ended up drinking wine and swapping numbers,” says Tunng frontman Sam Genders. “We kept in touch and they asked if we'd be up for doing an English version of one of their songs for a seven. I remembered Robin from seeing them play live and it was my favourite.”
Soy Un Caballo (Spanish for “I am a horse”) are a Belgian couple who write and perform songs of exquisite fragility, and record them in Brussels with an amazing line up of musicians such as Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy (Will Oldham), members of Raymondo and producer Sean O’Hagan (The High Llamas). The single gets released on No Need Water Records a London based label set up in late 2006 with a strong ethos in releasing seven inches both beautiful in aesthetics and sound. Wanting to extend the community of like minded artists, friends and believers further, the label started it’s own night ‘Kick The Plug’ a monthly live music night at the Wilmingtom Arms, Clerkenwell.
