Introducing... Kill It Kid

Debut single 'Send Me An Angel' out May 18th on One Little Indian

One Little Indian are very excited to welcome Bath 5-piece Kill It Kid to their roster, as a band set for great things in 2009. For want of an easy comparison, 'Anthony Hegarty meets Roberts Johnson' has been mentioned, although Kill It Kid sound very much their own - an impassioned, adventurous slant on blues and dark pop, with strong songs, gorgeous two-part vocals and loads of violin. Following a soft-released EP in December ’08 produced by John Parrish (PJ Harvey, Eels), the band release their first single proper on May 18th, titled 'Send Me An Angel'. The single and subsequent album is produced by Ryan Hadlock (Foo Fighters, Fleet Foxes, The Strokes, The Gossip).

Hailing from Bath Spa University (where they met and four-fifths of the band have just completed music degrees), Kill It Kid are a unique and storming proposition. They recall the primal delta blues appropriated with much success by the likes of the White Stripes and Two Gallants in recent years, and take their moniker from a dusty, rare old recording by Blind Willie McTell (from Atlanta Twelve String). The heft of this association might set the band up for a fall were it not so powerfully and passionately rendered.

Kill It Kid are Richard Jones (violins/backing vocals), Adam Timmins (bass guitar/guitars), Stephanie Ward (vocals/piano), Marc Jones (drums/percussion) and Chris Turpin (vocals/guitars/harmonica).

“With soul-searching lyrics relayed in Chris Turpin’s veritable roar of a voice that comes across a four-in-the-morning, whiskey-soaked cousin of Antony Hegarty’s perfectly complementing the seductive prowl of Stephanie Ward’s, and rip-roaring tunes such as ‘Heaven Never Seemed So Close’ at their disposal, these five students from Bath exemplify a steely passion and musical flair far beyond their years.”
- Drowned in Sound

"Kill It Kid don’t really sound like many other bands out there, which is probably the most exciting aspect of all."
- Ragged Words

"We prophesy: there will be mid-way split in the fractious music industry. There will be those who think Kill it Kid are the most exciting roots/indie crossover offering of 2009. And there will also be those disagree – those who are wrong."
- Rock Feedback
