The festival at the heart of London is back for a fifth year as Wireless announces the initial line-up for its now legendary dance day. This is where Daft Punk took all-comers in 2007 and Fatboy Slim headlined the biggest party in the capital last year with able support from the likes of Bootsy Collins, Mark Ronson and Lily Allen. With that heritage you would be right to expect something special from Wireless for 2009 and that’s exactly what they have. In the middle of London’s Hyde Park over four stages Wireless will be the summer event in the capital following multiple sell outs in 2008.

After headlining at the very first Wireless in the summer that their million selling ‘Singles’ album hit No. 1, we are thrilled to welcome back the mighty BASEMENT JAXX. Combining a string of smash hits like ‘Red Alert’, ‘Where’s You Head At’, ‘Good Luck’ and ‘Oh My Gosh’ with stunning visuals and a glittering array of guest singers, the Jaxx live show is the stuff of dance legend. Growing out of a small club night in Brixton, Basement Jaxx have since taken the sound of SW9 to the world, but they still feel a special connection to the capital:

“Frank Sinatra once said "It's very nice to go traveling but it's so much nicer to come home" and he was right. It's going to be a mad summer for us, playing in all four corners of the world, but we are really looking forward to coming back to the very heart of London and playing at Wireless.”

Headlining the second stage on Saturday at Wireless is no easy ride after last year's line-up which saw Underworld pack the tent and almost bring down the roof. That Mike Skinner and THE STREETS are up to the task isn't in doubt after a career encompassing four critically acclaimed albums, (including the number one and triple platinum ‘A Grand Don't Come For Free’ and the number one album ‘The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living’), numerous massive singles and a well deserved reputation for superb live shows. From breakthrough track, ‘Has It Come To This’, Mike Skinner has pioneered modern British dance music and influenced countless other acts whilst giving British youth a new vocabulary. The man himself is ready and waiting for July to come round:

“I am excited about returning to the site of my favourite ever gig - when Daft Punk played at Wireless 2007. This year we will be performing just before Basement Jaxx who I remember introduced me to my French idols on that hot Hyde Park evening two years ago. Hyde Park will hopefully be as hot this year and someone else will enjoy their favourite ever gig”.

DIZZEE RASCAL brings his chart topping and scene stealing sounds to the Main Stage for the first time. The three times gold album selling artist has been the pioneer of London and Britain’s hip hop and grime scene since debut album, ‘Boy In Da Corner’. Dizzee progressed through Top Ten follow up ‘Showtime’ and third album ‘Maths and English’ before last year’s smash hit Number One single, ‘Dance Wiv Me’. Dizzee and Basement Jaxx are no strangers, having shard record label XL Recordings, before establishing his own ‘Dirty Stank’ label, and having worked together on 2003’s ‘Lucky Star’ from the Jaxx ‘Kish Kash’ album. Dizzee knows his way around Wireless and is ready for his Main Stage moment:

"I’m really excited about it, to be doing something so big in my hometown - its going to be a good one".

Following multiple sell outs for Wireless 2008, promoter Steve Homer is looking forward to another year in the heart of London.

“Basement Jaxx was where Wireless’ reputation for outstanding dance line-ups on the Saturday began and they are very much a significant part of the history of the event. It’s a pleasure to welcome them back for what I am sure will be another outstanding performance and to have the likes of Dizzee Rascal and The Streets also on the bill demonstrates the strength of Wireless after five incredible years.”

In addition to four stages of the best music, the biggest names and the hippest newcomers, Wireless 2009 will welcome back all the extra attractions which have become synonymous with the event. Expect fairground rides, a huge variety of food stalls, beer gardens and fun games. Hyde Park is in the very heart of London and accessing the festival is easy with a variety of tube lines and bus routes available to get you to the centre of the action without driving. Check www.tfl.gov.uk for travel details.

Gates open at midday.

We are happy to welcome back Kiss as our radio partner for the Saturday of Wireless 2009.
