UK Tour Dates Announced
What's Your Rupture? is pleased to announce the long-awaited release of Fucked Up's "Year of the Rat" b/w "First Born" 12," available on March 23rd 2009 on vinyl and digital formats.
"Year of the Rat" is the third installment in Fucked Up's series of records based on the Chinese astrological cycle and is an 11-minute A-side that rationalizing the tumultuous year in the world, the band, and their own homes, expressed as the loudest Fucked Up recording to date. The anticipation for the single, due to the resounding response the band has received from both critics and fans alike, has led to "Year of the Rat" charting as the no.2 pre- order at online retailer Insound in the US.
"Year of the Rat" was recorded at the culmination of 2008 and adheres to the principles of the Chinese sign. Side A memorializes the transformative year of political and cultural uncertainty, with a cascade of guitars layering into a dense and propulsive charge reminiscent of the most memorable Hawkwind songs ("Psychedelic Warlords," 'Silver Machine"). The B side "First Born" is not just a meditation on becoming a father - it's an uncompromising push towards a new sincerity. Don't doubt for a second that his position isn't hearfelt, and Pink Eyes screams out, "This is the greatest moment of my life!" The two tracks compile the exhaustive energy of one of the most outrageous years in world history: 2008 The Year Of The Rat.

Fucked Up formed in 2001 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The band has released almost a hundred records to date and have toured the world several times over. Fucked Up are currently signed to Matador Records but maintain a strong relationship with What's Your Rupture?. Their first record on the label was the uncompromising 18 minute-long epic, Year Of The Pig. The New York Times, NME, Spin and numerous other publications that can't even print the band's name championed YOTP as the ultimate punk song; a brave new direction for an old art form. Somehow, Fucked Up unified hardcore fans with the rest of the world.
Since the release of Year Of The Pig, Fucked Up focused their wild approach to punk through a full-length record (The Chemistry Of Common Life on Matador Records), and exhaustive touring throughout the world, while still raising thousands of dollars for charity in their home town of Toronto, Canada. Focusing on their families (singer, Pink Eyes, will soon be a father for the first time) and friends. No matter what obstacles are presented FUCKED UP are devoted to their message.
