on Cherryade records April 13th
Crashing in on the current wave of the riot grrrl resurgence that has defied hip record collections of late, Kids loves lies embrace the early 90's cult movement but twist it with their own unique 2009 style. Influenced by the likes of Gang of Four, Be your own pet & Pretty girls make graves Kids love lies veer between pop, punk and indeed and are the missing link between twee girl pop and post punk or in simpler terms 'Power pop' .
Kids Love Lies are Ellen Murphy (vocals) Leigh Harrison (guitar), Claudia Mansaray (bass guitar), Matty Saywell (guitar) and Raf Singer (drums). They formed in November 2007 after 4 strangers were drawn together by their shared love of frenetic post punk and after endless searching found the missing link in pop pixie Ellen (or mad dog Murphy as she refers to herself on the myspace). Since then they have been playing packed shows up and down the country and have won the hearts of tastemakers at the likes of Radio 1, 6 music and bloggers have been going mad all over the internet writing about the band.
'Count In My Head' refers to the Brit post punk scene and is a short, catchy jagged pop song that sounds like the Noisettes covering Sleater Kinney with Jemima Be Your Own Pet on vocals. Ellen melodically yips about a broken relationship and being tired of the constant fight "Only said what you want me to say, only did what you want me to do". Other songs featured on the single are the girly angst ridden "Fight Face" and an acoustic mix of ‘Perfection’ which is a tirade against social climbers and name droppers!
The band are touring to coincide with their single release, see what all the fuss is about at one of these shows:
20th February 2009 – No Fiction@ Powers bar London
6th March- The Quarterhouse- Folkestone
8th April- SINGLE LAUNCH @ The Lexington- London
16th May- Artrocker stage @ Great escape festival- Brighton
