Spinal Tap: Unwigged and Unplugged
 

This is more important and much less horrifying than seeing KISS without their makeup for the first time. The guys in Spinal Tap are kicking off a 30-city North American tour on April 17 in Vancouver...but as themselves!

The comedy trio of Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer and Michael McKeon are probably best known for their Spinal Tap personas, despite their individually long and impressive resumes. The 1984 mockumentary became a cult favorite, popularizing many hysterical phrases like, 'it goes to 11,' 'shit sandwich' and 'none more black.' The movie also borrowed from real life stories of getting lost backstage, the constantly revolving door of drummers and faulty stage gimmicks. They also gave insight into the real world of music by teaching lay people about garnering 'selective appeal' and the importance of recording in 'dubly.'

'This is Spinal Tap' recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and with this milestone comes an interesting revelation. Just like in the real music industry, the band hasn't made any money. Despite a relatively small cost of $2.5 million to make the movie and its legendary status among music and film lovers alike, the musical trio have never seen a dime from their efforts.

On their Unwigged and Unplugged tour, the group will be performing songs from Spinal Tap, as well as some tunes from their Mighty Wind alter-egos, The Folksmen. Spinal Tap is also preparing to release a new album in late May.
