Concluding the final chapter in a trilogy of limited edition 10" releases on Chess Club Recordings, comes Mumford & Sons’ new etched 10", ‘The Cave and the Open Sea’.
Mumford & Sons: The Story So Far…
Part 1
Lend Me Your Eyes
Before Mumford & Sons, Marcus Mumford, Winston Marshall, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane were playing in different bands, and Winston was promoting at the now notorious Bosun’s Locker on King’s Road. It was here that amongst much soul searching and jamming the first incarnation of Mumford & Sons was born, with Ben Lovett completing the final piece of the jigsaw in early 2008. The quartet would practise their own sets on the pavement outside the venue, before joining forces as backing musicians with their peers.
It was then in July 2008 that they launched their debut EP, ‘Lend Me Your Eyes’, with a sold out show at London's Luminaire.
Part 2
Love Your Ground
Glastonbury 2008 was where Mumford & Sons moved to next, performing to a rapturous response, before setting off for their first tour of America with Laura Marling and Johnny Flynn &The Sussex Wit. The American press were quick to tip Mumford & Sons as a great British export to truly get excited about. Full of vigour and brimming with confidence, the band returned to tour their beloved UK once more, and to far bigger audiences. The wonderfully intimate and joyous ‘Love Your Ground’ EP arrived in November 2008 to widespread acclaim and once again sold out. This time, a jam-packed London Dingwalls played host to the launch, with the EPs live favourite 'Little Lion Man' taking centre stage.
Part 3
The Cave And The Open Sea
Mumford & Sons began the year as shortlist nominees for the BBC Sounds of 2009 poll, and embarked upon a huge sold-out tour of the UK from the Highlands (Stornoway, Fort William) to the very South of England (Portsmouth, Canterbury). They now release the final chapter in this trilogy, as a band who have won the hearts and souls of everyone they have encountered.
Bold and yet touchingly intimate, there are few, if any, acts today that have that unique ability to truly enrapture in their live performances, where each show becomes a must-see event - the live shows are a winning formula for a band that can never get enough of bundling into a van and playing to every city, town, village and hamlet that the world has to offer.
Their London show at the ICA sold out in 24 hours.
‘The Cave’ and ‘My Heart Told My Head’ is the end of a chapter but the beginning of the story.
Mumford & Sons return to America this March to perform two headline shows in New York and at SXSW. They’ll return with a UK tour in April.
