Gearhead Records announced today they will host a label showcase as the only sanctioned music event during the 7th Annual Lady Luck Tattoo Convention. The convention runs March 13-March 15, and the label party will be Saturday, March 14th 2009 at Tonic Lounge, 231 West 2nd St.

The Lady Luck Tattoo Convention, put on by Pittsburgh, PA based Meeting of the Marked/Pinnacle Tattoo will be located again this year at Circus Circus in Reno, NV. It features 3 days of world-renowned tattoo artists tattooing convention attendees, tattoo and flash contests, informative talks, plus many vendors, among them the Woodland, CA based record label.
Gearhead Records teamed up with local tattoo shop Sacramento Tattoo to host the only sanctioned after party. The line up features 5 bands all for $10: Vomit (hardcore from Sacramento), Crank County Daredevils (metal from North Carolina), The Mansfields (psychobilly punk from Colorado), Hellbound Glory (outlaw country from Reno, NV) and The Lords of Altamont (garage-rock from Los Angeles). All paying customers will receive a free showcase poster as well as a raffle ticket to be entered into a drawing to win cool label stuff such as CDs and t shirts.

Label owner Michelle Haunold got the idea for the showcase after being a vendor at the Tattoo Convention last year. "I used to spend a lot of time organizing a label showcase as part of the South by Southwest event in Austin, Texas," explains Haunold. "SXSW used to be a fun event but it has always come right around spring break, so travel and hotels were getting prohibitively expensive. It also takes place the same time as the Lady Luck Tattoo Convention, and last year, I just decided it would be a lot more fun and less hassle to host a showcase locally for all the folks that couldn't travel to Texas. Why should they get all the fun? The Lady Luck Tattoo Convention seemed like the perfect backdrop for a rock n' roll event like a label party. The convention sponsor Tim Azinger was so enthusiastic about it when I proposed it, and when the rest fell together so easily, I knew it was the right thing to do."
Haunold started looking for sponsors to help cover the cost of the event and Sacramento Tattoo (2722 X St., Sacramento CA 95818) was immediately onboard. "One of the tattoo artists there, "Cuz'n Bill" Lorenz, does all my tattoos. He and the shop owner Dave O'Connor have a really great hardcore band called Vomit that plays around quite a bit. I mentioned the showcase to them, and since they were going to be there tattooing during the convention it made sense for the band to play, and for us to co-host the party," she said
The first band, Vomit, goes on at 10:30 PM. Crank County Daredevils take over at 11 PM, The Mansfields play at 11:45 pm, Lords of Altamont at 12:30 and Hellbound Glory will close things out at 1 AM. "I'm really excited about the party" said Haunold. "It's gonna be a really fun night, with fabulous music, cool art, and lots of really interesting people. Its nice to be able to create a local event that maybe one day will get as much attention as SXSW or the Coachella Music Festival. People shouldn't have to travel so far to be able to be part of something fun like this"
