Creating music was a life-long dream of Tommy’s. Involved in music since the age of 5, she dabbled with various instruments before singing and songwriting became her main passion. “I’ve played the piano since I was 5, and use it to write now and I learnt the violin and flute once upon a time but only got as far as learning Mary Had A Little Lamb! Singing was something I needed to do; I never wanted to be nurse, lawyer or policewoman when I was growing up”. From singing in a Gospel choir when she was just 8 to performing in front of 10,000 people in Holland at 13; Tommy loves singing as much as people love listening to her.
Tommy’s debut album ‘Wall of Words’ was funded by the support of her loyal fan base, conquering the competition on slicethepie.com in November 2007. Produced by Hugh Padgham (Genesis, XTC, The Police) and influenced by the likes of John Mayer, Joni Mitchell, India Arie and Billie Holiday, the album is a collection of soulful blues with a sprinkling of jazz and funk. It flew straight to the iTunes Top 10 Blues chart.

Here is a video of Tommy Ludgate and band (Hamish Balfour on keys, James Stelling on guitar, Tiernan Godel on bass, Ed Hopwood on drums) performing 'Wall of Words' live at the album launch @ The Cobden Club.
Tommy Ludgate is possessed of a voice that is as rich and soulful as it is cool and expressive; her music has the power to leave you feeling uplifted and inspired, mellow and reflective. Whichever mood ‘Wall of Words’ leaves you with, it is impossible not to recognise Tommy’s natural ability to create beautiful music for all to enjoy.
