Right now, everybody is in a whirl about Chew Lips’ imminent debut single “Solo”, to be released on Kitsune on March 23. And for good reason – it is the kind of chest-swelling, fist-pumping, heart-breaking music they don’t make any more, 3 minutes of gloriously triumphal, beautifully wistful pop majesty, spurred on by frontwoman Tigs’ magnificently skyscraping voice and a chorus of “we don’t want to wait, there’s no time, no time” which looks set to be the defining catch cry of audiences for the summer.
Live, they’re a force to be reckoned with as well, with the band electrifying punters at both their own shows and as supports to the likes of Vivian Girls and Telepathe. And, come April, we’ll be able to see them in action once more, as they go on tour around the UK with those angel-faced heroes of guitar rock, The Virgins, with hotly-tipped psychedelic magicians Amazing Baby joining them from April 18. Sleek electro anthems from London meets down and dirty rock and roll and swirling bliss rock from Brooklyn – a marriage made in pop heaven, if ever there was one.
