The apparent extrasensory perception or mental telepathy of a Post War Years live set may at first seem inexplicable but is actually very easy to explain. The four-piece grew up together in Leamington Spa and since upping sticks to the capital, they moved in to an abandoned Russian social club together. The almost inseparable lifestyle of Henry (Vox/ Guitars / Keys), Simon (Vox/ Guitars/ Keys) Tom (Vox/ Bass) and Fred (Drums) has been the catalyst for a somewhat unique live experience.

“I think when you've spent almost every weekend of your life with 3 other men travelling in the back of smoky postal vans and sweating in air-tight rooms, it affects you in a profound and rather special way”.

With 3 members of the band regularly switching instruments and lead vocal duties, as well as performing intricate harmonies, Post War Years have naturally evolved into something more like a living organism rather than just an outcome of the sum of their parts.

The seemingly biological development of Post War Years sound has resulted in them laying down on record a completely original and inspired debut album ‘The Greats And The Happenings’ due for release this May. Recorded and produced by the band themselves, their sound has been honed by Graeme Stewart (Radiohead 'In Rainbows' (Pre-Production and Engineer), Jonny Greenwood, Soundtrack album 'There Will Be Blood' (Producer/Programmer/Mixer), Jonny Greenwood Album “Bodysong” – (Nominated for Ivor Novello 2004 - Best Original Film Score (Co-producer/Programmer/Mix Engineer) plus many others), who assisted the boys with additional production and mixing on the LP.

The release looks set to capitalize on the recent success of the ‘Black Morning’ EP (2008) and single ‘Whole World On Its Head’ (2009) which were unleashed through one of the nations pre-eminent indie labels ‘Chess Club’.
From it’s punchy off beat opening with ‘The Red Room’, through to the combo’s take on a ballad with ‘That’s All’, ‘The Greats And The Happenings’ invitingly seduces you into the quirky synth driven microcosm of a band on the edge of great things. Traversing a veritable buffet of genres, highlights including the aforementioned single ‘Whole World On Its Head’, the frenetic live favourite ‘White Lies’ and ‘Latin Holiday’; a whirlwind of tuneful handclaps and atmospheric electronic swirls weaving through a sing-along chant chorus.

All in all, surely one of the most interesting and innovative debuts to be released this year.
Citing their influences as broad ranging as Radiohead, Prince, Talking Heads, Joy Division, Tom Vek to Bjork, it’s no surprise that what they come up with is such a refreshing avant-garde twist on the math rock genre. Their off kilter dance punk has found a cavalcade of ardent devotees including Radio 1’s Rob da Bank, and Radio 6’s Tom Robinson as well as XFM’s John Kennedy and Eddie Temple Morris. The band has recorded live sessions for John Kennedy and Rob da Bank, the latter of which will be broadcast on Radio 1 on the album release date 18th May. Other fans include bands who broke through in 2008 resulting in support slots such as, White Lies as well as Late of the Pier who will be putting out a live EP on their own label Zarcorp, in April.

2009 kicked off with a 10 date UK tour with shows that followed in New York with Slow Club and We Have Band before they head to SXSW – the US press already tipping them as one of the British bands to watch in Austin.

With support growing ever stronger both sides of the pond, 2009 looks undoubtedly like more enthusiasts climbing on the Post War Years bandwagon.
