‘London Town’ is the 2009 Summer Anthem from electro pop trio Man Like Me. Cleverly soaking up elements of ska, pop, garage and electro, Johnny, Pete and Jerome deliver an immediately unforgettable melody laced with sing-along lyrics and a tough urban under-beat. The song is a homage to the city that has given birth to Man Like Me’s experimental yet infectious blend of new urban pop. As not just a topic, but also a musical representation of the city that has spawned the Man Like Me sound, London Town is a harmonious blend of electro beats, pop sounds and urban rhythms, an anthem for the summer of 2009.
The track is homage to the 90’s garage scene that spawned an ever-true party vibe. An MC that used to be the king pin of the club scene falls from grace, as new genre’s appear and take over. For Man Like Me, music is nothing but fun and party, which the early garage scene radiated from its playful melodies to its moschino shirts. ‘London Town’ stands up through the crowd to recognise an era dear to many people’s hearts and is a perfect starting place for Man Like Me’s quest, for the ultimate good time sound.
Once you’ve finished tapping along (or furiously dancing), then check out who the band have enlisted on their remix package. Pulling from their dance / club character, a collection of who’s who in raw young production has been compiled. This time they have pulled out all the stops.
First up, Boy Better Know’s prince of grime, JME, rips it hard over a heavyweight Bassline House remix which comes courtesy of up and coming grime producer Rudekid. Next up is best British Breakthrough DJ nominee and Electro producer Foamo. This man has carved his way into DJ box’s across the globe with his own particular blend of tasty wobbly baselines and fidgety beats. The remix train also stops across the pond with a brand new signing on Southern Fried’s record label, American Ghetto-House producer Dances With White Girls. Rudimental, 2nd in the compilation charts this month also crops up to lay down a Garage stonker to get your neck snapping. There are also remixes by Doorly (Dubstep), Tommy Four Seven (Tech-House) and Man Like Me’s very own Pesk.
The London Town Video was shot and Directed by Rollo Jackson, the talent behind the latest Hot Chip and Knarles Barkley Videos.
The coming months for Man Like Me play host to the biggest stages in the bands career. The troublesome trio support Madness in front of 30,000 on July 17th. Bestival, Glastonbury and Festibelly also beckon. The ‘London Town’ launch Parties will be illuminating the London Sky’s in April and their self titled debut album is hot off the press in May.
