St. Vincent, the nom de plume of Annie Clark, releases ‘Actor Out Of Work’ on April 20th, the first single to be taken from her long-awaited sophomore album Actor (out 4th May).
The writing process for Actor was certainly an idiosyncratic one. Clark took to immersing herself in some of her favourite films – Badlands, Pierrot Le Fou, The Wizard Of Oz, Stardust Memories, Sleeping Beauty – and beginning each song as a secret film score. The resulting eleven tracks combine the fantasy of Disney, the sweep of Morricone, David Mamet’s unsettling dramatic form and the alienation of Philip Roth.
‘Actor Out Of Work’, one of many highlights from Actor, is a devastating sonic kiss-off, complete with slyly poisonous lyrics and steamrolling guitars. Less than two and a half minutes in duration it is deliciously succinct in delivery and comes backed with an exclusive track ‘Bicycle’.
After two scintillating performances at South By Southwest Music Festival, St. Vincent will play a one-off show at London's Hoxton Bar & Kitchen on Tuesday 21st April.
'Actor Out Of Work' will be made available as a 7" and digital download.
