Camera Obscura are back in April and in line for a busy month as they're releasing a new single and album as well as undertaking a UK tour (includes Shepherd's Bush Empire headline show).
The new single, 'French Navy', is being released on April 13th on 7", CD and DL. It features two new tracks and a Jim Noir remix of the single. You can see the video for it here.
It was directed by their long-time conspirator, Blair Young and is based on the simple premise of falling in love.
The new album, My Maudlin Career (their first for 4AD and fourth overall), is being released on April 20th on LP, CD and DL. After his successful touches on their last record, they returned to Sweden to work again with producer Jari Haapalainen (Ed Harcourt, Peter, Bjorn & John, The Concretes) and his wonderful understanding with the band continues to flourish, again fully realising not just the potential of Tracyanne Campbell’s songs and remarkable voice, but also the ensemble musicianship of the group as a whole.
Speaking about My Maudlin Career, lead singer Tracyanne Campbell commented, "Some people who have heard it say it's intense and quite dark. I suppose it is in a way. We were even more open and brave when making it than we were with the last record. I've never been so brutal when its come to writing lyrics. I wouldn't even call them lyrics. Just documentation of what was going on with me for a while. I truly believe it's the best we've done so far."
They've just finished a whirlwind trip to the States where they played two sold out shows in New York and a clutch of shows at SXSW. Their next tour starts on April 21st in Newcastle and finishes in Dublin before heading on to the US for a huge tour - details here.
