Introducing... TRICLOPS!

Introducing... TRICLOPS!

On Tour Now!

How conceived:
Summer '05, Xtian and Geek make a very reverby, very noisy, very experimental 4 track recording called Meth Bird. Then, through the power of the internet, these two fresh young swingers put up a "missed connections" ad on Craigslist.
Amazingly, both Becker and Boothroyd happen to be looking for "no strings-attached" kicks in the "missed connections" ads at that exact moment, reply simultaneously and agree to meet at a practice space underneath SF's most gnarly, drug infested neighborhood: the Tenderloin. Reckless sonic exploration followed, the destruction of genres inadvertently ensues, and it all feels almost better than opiates.

Statistics:
In 3 years Triclops! has released 65 minutes of music on 6 record labels, on 5 different formats. They booked themselves through 3 full US tours, including performances at SXSW, CMJ, Fuck Yeah! Fest 4, The Fest 6 & 7, Total Fest 6 and Jello 5-0, logging in over 50,000 miles on their trusty Ford Econoline; playing everywhere from all ages DIY spots, restaurants, bookstores, coffee shops, outdoor parking lots, skate parks, art galleries, living rooms, basements, to the inevitable slew of 21 and up bars/pubs with their 2-drink-tickets-per-band-member hospitality.

Aesthetic:
With little desire to soothe their audience and/or provide them dance music to mate to, Triclops! has more in common with progress-obsessed, envelope-pushing artists like Sun Ra, Butthole Surfers, Zappa, Melvins/Big Business, and Sonic Youth than they do with the "retail-ready" indie disco bands dominating the press these days.
Secretly, though, Triclops! wishes they too could have a "hair budget" and "in-ear monitors". Their approach is sonic collage art-acid punk versions of avant-garde classical composition with cinematic textures. Triclops! consider their musical/lyrical ambitions and desires akin to Klaus Kinski's character in Herzog's film Fitzcarraldo, bug-eyed and clad in "civilized" attire in the midst of the jungle, with hordes of unpredictable indigenous laborers all struggling to haul a working steamboat over a mountain using only the power of their minds and sinewy bodies. Meanwhile, the sonorous strains of the great tenor Enrico Caruso broadcast forth from a tinny Victrola in the midst of an overpowering chorus of monkey-skin drums, death howls, screeching birds, and a relentless wall of buzzing insects as the steamship grinds down the mountain side cracking under its own weight - yeah, Triclops! sounds a bit like that.
