There is no doubt that one of the most anticipated new releases of 2009 is “Shallow Life”, the eagerly awaited new studio album from Italian sensation LACUNA COIL. Recorded with acclaimed producer Don Gilmore (Avril Lavigne, Linkin Park, Pearl Jam) at the famed NRG Studios in Los Angeles, the first full-length studio album since the 2006 release ”Karmacode” is undeniably a huge step forward in the band’s musical evolution, and promises to be well worth the wait. Cristina Scabbia (vocals) states: “’Shallow Life’ is a natural metamorphosis from within the band; we explored different musical territories while maintaining our own style. A mix of old and new, fast and slow and light and dark. The album production is incredibly powerful and has a beautiful purity to it. Hopefully listeners will feel the same sort of connection that we have to these songs. ‘Shallow Life’ has forced us to challenge ourselves. It represents the way we see ourselves in the days we live in through truth, love and lies.” Australian and North American fans eager to hear new material won’t have to wait long: LACUNA COIL will introduce new songs to fans on the Australian Soundwave Festival that features such diverse acts as Nine Inch Nails, Alice In Chains, Bloodhound Gang, Billy Talent, The Subways and The Dillinger Escape Plan between February 21st – March 2nd. Likewise the band plans to debut new songs from “Shallow Life” starting on March 20th as LACUNA COIL joins such hard rock titans as Disturbed and Killswitch Engage on the “Music As A Weapon IV” tour. The 38-city tour crisscrosses the U.S. before finishing May 16th and will mark the band’s first run of American dates in almost 2 years. However, European fans will not have to wait too long for LACUNA COIL’s return to European stages with several high profile festivals as well as extensive touring (currently in the planning stages). The American breakthrough for LACUNA COIL -- whose moniker translates to "empty spiral" in English, betraying the rich versatility of their music -- began with 2001's “Unleashed Memories” album. However, it was the runaway success of 2002's “Comalies” that became the foundation on which the band’s success was built. In early 2004, LACUNA COIL’s international successes were validated with an invitation to participate in that year’s Ozzfest, supporting such metal stalwarts as Judas Priest, Slayer and Ozzy himself. LACUNA COIL offered something unique to the package that ultimately struck a chord with fans, resulting in them being hailed as the year’s breakthrough artist. LACUNA COIL’s fourth full-length album “Karmacode” had a phenomenal first week in both Europe and the US, securing the #28 spot on the Billboard Top 200 charts in US, position #2 in UK’s rock album charts, Top 50 in the UK National Album Charts, as well as chart entries in Italy, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Greece, Finland, The Netherlands and even the United Arab Emirates. More than 40 magazines and newspapers worldwide, including Metal Hammer (UK, D, H, PL, GR, I), Rock Sound (UK & Italy), Terrorizer (UK), Revolver, Rolling Stone, Rock One, Sue, Aardschok, Rock Hard (D, GR, I) & Scream (N) featured the band as the main act on their respective covers. After the enormous success of 2006’s Ozzfest tour in the States as well as triumphantly performing at various prestigious European summer festivals including a main stage slot at Download Festival, Graspop (NL), Rock Im Park & Rock Am Ring (both in Germany) as well as Heineken and MTV Day Festivals (both in Italy), they returned to Europe for a run of headline shows. Immediately afterwards they joined Danzig and The Haunted as part of the “Blackest Of The Black” US tour. Then later, a direct support slot tour opening for In Flames would close out the year. 2007 saw them headlining the “Hottest Chicks In Metal” tour with Within Temptation, The Gathering, Stolen Babies and In This Moment. Further US tours with Stone Sour and Shadows Fall would follow shortly afterwards. Towards the end of 2007, the band played selected and prestigious festivals like Bloodstock (UK), Pukkelpop and Lowlands (Benelux) and Wacken Open Air (D) before going to Japan and then on to Australia as part of the Gigantour with artists such as Megadeth, Static X and Devildriver. Still, the band did not take any breaks: they finalized their first ever DVD “Visual Karma (Body, Mind and Soul)” in 2008 before touring Europe with Bullet For My Valentine and recording “Shallow Life”. With five full-length albums, two EPs, various singles as well as a DVD now to their credit, LACUNA COIL have ensured that each offering further enunciates the subtle, solemn beauty they create. “Shallow Life” takes that a step further, seeing them further mature as musicians and songwriters to deliver what may-well-be a career-defining album.
