SLIPKNOT AND AMON AMARTH BATTLE FOR TOP SPOT AT METAL HAMMER GOLDEN GODS 2009

FANS NOMINATE IRON MAIDEN, MOTORHEAD, GALLOWS AND LAMB OF GOD FOR PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS

Slipknot and Viking death metallers Amon Amarth lead the way as shortlists for the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2009 are announced.

The Golden Gods are awarded in front of 1500 screaming metal fans and this year the event promises live sets from an A-list of fan favourites. So far, organisers have confirmed amazing live performances from Trivium, Amon Amarth, Devildriver, metal legends Saxon and very special guests, Anvil – the veteran Canadian act, who recently hit the headlines for their critically
acclaimed documentary.

Once again, The Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2009 will be taking over the River Thames with the now infamous HMS Hammer, this year playing host to some true legends of metal – with more information soon-to-be announced.

Chris Ingham, Organiser of the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2009 said: “With Metal Hammer readers pitting the viking helmets of Amon Amarth against the masks of Slipknot, we’ve witnessed a truly phenomenal year for heavy metal music.

With Iron Maiden and Metallica ripping up venues across the globe, heavy metal is bigger than ever, and we are selling more copies of Metal Hammer than ever before. The growing legion of metal fans in the UK and further
afield will unite to honour the true pioneers of our genre.”
