Decibel Festival Announces 2009 Dates; Converting To Non-Profit Status

Decibel Festival Announces 2009 Dates; Converting To Non-Profit Status
The West Coast's premier electronic music festival, Decibel, has announced dates for their 2009 edition. The 6th annual Decibel Festival takes place September 24th through September 27th in Seattle, WA in various venues throughout the city. Since its inception in 2004, Decibel Festival has distinguished itself as a unique event of its kind in North America dedicated to live electronic performance, visualart, and new media. Decibel returns in 2009 with an edition that will be more substantial and stimulating than ever. It is expected that over 80 artists from 15 countries will participate and perform at the festival, following an intense trajectory on the path of research, experimentation, and innovation. Stay tuned for line-up announcements.

The critically-acclaimed multimedia art and music event boasted an attendance of over 13,000 in 2008. Past performers over the years include Autechre, Diplo, Green Velvet, Modeselektor, Apparat, Vladislav Delay, Michael Mayer, Gui Boratto, Justice, Matmos, Derrick May, Carl Craig, Stars of the Lid, Murcof, The Field, Deadmau5, Fennesz, among many others. In addition to these performance programs, Decibel also includes a professional section featuring panels and workshops, serving as a forum for musicians and industry professionals alike.

A community arts festival with an educational component, Decibel has always been "non-profit" in essence, by no means a "money-making"venture for its organizers. However, this year Decibel Festival is making it official and has changed to 501.c3 status in efforts to continue the festivals growth by attracting grants and charitable contributions. In preparation for the festival this fall, Decibel organizers are putting together a series of showcases leading up to the big event thoughout the spring and summer in Seattle, Detroit, Montreal and beyond. Stay tuned for more info coming up soon!
