Yellow Bird Project, a non-profit organization founded in Montreal, Quebec, has announced the upcoming release of its latest philanthropic venture, The Indie Rock Coloring Book. The collection includes coloring and activity pages by acclaimed artist/graphic designer Andy J. Miller, inspired by some of today's most vital and visual indie rock artists. The Indie Rock Coloring Book will be published by Chronicle Books (distributed in Canada by Raincoast Books) in September.

"This supercalifragilisticexpialidoc ious book is intended to raise awareness of the Yellow Bird Project and its contributing artists," say YBP founders Matt Stotland and Casey Cohen. "Andy J. Miller has created pictures symbolic of the many musicians who have contributed to the Yellow Bird Project over the years. We couldn't decide on the colors, so we are leaving that up to you. We invite you on this journey of discovery, creativity and philanthropy."

Each page in The Indie Rock Coloring Book features a ready-for-coloring illustration paying homage to some of the many indie rock artists who have already teamed up with YBP to raise money and awareness for their favorite charities. Among the indie icons represented are Rilo Kiley, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Devendra Banhart, Bon Iver, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The New Pornographers, The Shins, Iron & Wine, Andrew Bird, MGMT, The Magic Numbers, and Broken Social Scene.

"We, Rilo Kiley, were honored to be asked to be part of this project," writes Rilo Kiley bassist Pierre de Reeder in the book's forward. "This wonderful coloring book...is a great example of how you can turn your love for music and art into something that can really help."

In addition, The Indie Rock Coloring Book has drawn praise from some of the musicians featured therein. "I like coloring books," says Bloc Party's Russell Lissack. "I also like charity. So as you can imagine, I definitely like this."

"This is the greatest coloring book since coloring was invented," enthuses The National's Matt Berninger. "I've decided to have kids just so I'll have somebody to give this book to."

All royalties from The Indie Rock Coloring Book will benefit the Yellow Bird Project itself, further funding YBP's future philanthropic and creative efforts.

Founded in 2006, Yellow Bird Project is devoted to bridging the worlds of music, art, and charity. The brainchild of lifelong friends Matt Stotland and Casey Cohen, YBP has enlisted a wide array of musicians to create their own unique t-shirt designs, with all profits benefiting charities of the artist's choice.

YBP gives fans the opportunity to support and promote their favorite musicians while simultaneously raising money for such diverse charitable organizations as Art For Change, Transportation Alternatives, AIDS Society of Canada, Teenage Cancer Trust, Free Arts For Abused Children, Safe Space, Lake Ontario Waterkeeper, and The Elliot Smith Memorial Fund. Andy J. Miller has earned acclaim for his detailed, hand drawn illustrations. The Manchester, England-based illustrator, art director, designer, and musician has worked with Nike, Sony, and Converse, to name but a few. His art was recently exhibited as part of the prestigious Beck's Fusions 2008.
