Afan FM, the local radio station for the Neath Port Talbot County Borough, is delighted to announce the return of its “Last One Standing” Battle of the Bands competition after a three year hiatus.
A cash prize of £1,000 is being offered to the winner, who will also be crowned as South Wales’ best unsigned band. Up to twenty bands are being sought to contest the prize, with four heats set to take place across the summer with a huge grand final to take place at Swansea’s Sin City the end of August – which will also be simultaneously broadcast on air.
The station has also agreed a deal with Neath Port Talbot College, who will act as the official headline sponsor for the 2009 Last One Standing contest on air, online and during the live events.
“Last One Standing was always a major highlight of our trial broadcasts and
now we’ve once again established ourselves as the premier supporters of local music in Neath Port Talbot, we’re happy to bring the best unsigned bands from South Wales back to the area once again to slug it out see which one will really be the Last One Standing – and £1,000 richer of course” said Craig Williams, Afan FM’s founder and Head of Programming.
“Last One Standing” has taken place previously in 2004 and 2006 to sell out
crowds during the station’s trial broadcast phase, meaning the 2009 contest
will be the first staged by Afan FM as a full time radio station.
