Curumin will be back in North America this summer, bringing his
own brand of samba-soul to festival-goers across the continent.
The tour is bookended by stops in New York (at SummerStage on
July 8 with Juana Molina, at Southpaw on July 26) but in between
he'll be playing everything from the Montreal International Jazz
Fest to San Francisco's Stern Grove Festival, not to mention shows
in Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Ottawa, and Seattle.

Curumin was also recently featured on National Geographic's Geo
Sessions. You can check out his set, along with his interview, here:
"He brought his eclectic sound, which is truly a perfect blend
of the classic (Jorge Ben Jor) and the contemporary, to a packed
crowd at Mercury [Lounge] and wailed on the drums for a good hour-plus.
It's rare to see a frontman simultaneously rapping and playing
percussion, but the São Paulo native breezed through it with the
ease of a vet and casually kept the audience engaged via adlibs
em portugués." - Latina.com (February 2009)
"It's to Curumin's credit that he kneaded this thick sonic dough
into something not just digestible but delicious. 'Japan Pop
Show' includes some of the catchiest music released this year,
including a single, "Compacto," that rates as an ideal song of
summer. - The New York Daily News (December 5, 2008)
"Brazilian break-out Curumin delivers a modern version of the
danceable funk and samba-influenced rock that made countrymen Jorge
Ben and Gilberto Gil worldwide stars in the 1970s. - Flavorpill
(January 27, 2009)
Curumin's Amazonian soul is beyond seductive, his neo-bossa nova
more than bossy, his sense of rhythm impeccable, and his showmanship
endearing. With two albums under his belt, 2005's Achados E
Perdidos and 2008's Japan Pop Show, he's emerged as one of Sao
Paulo's leading musical exports, mixing a heavy '70s retro influence
with a hip, contemporary vibe." - SF Weekly (January 23, 2009)
"The São Paulo native is perhaps the foremost visionary of
samba-hop as an artist, but as a person, he even more importantly
embodies the rise and flowering of a global generation fearlessly
exploding restrictive divisions." - The Village Voice (November 26, 2008)
