Hot on the heels of his electrifying debut single ‘River Phoenix’, which picked up huge support and daytime playlist action at Xfm and Kerrang, getting those in the know all hot and bothered, Trip precedes his eagerly awaited ‘ShortCuts’ long player with the jaw-dropping diatribe of album closer and firm live favourite ‘Who’s That’.
Co-written with Does It Offend You Yeah’s James Rushent ‘Who’s That’ sets the tone with a corrosive, flailing guitar intro, that leads into pounding riffs that drive the track to its livid core, laying the foundation for a typically graphic lyrical onslaught from Trip who takes no prisoners and leaves no stone unturned. Spreading his web of displeasure wide and embodying the scorn of a nation, Trip’s ire targets everything from the protagonist’s own lethargy and the fact he lost his virginity to the solo from ‘November Rain’ to traffic light tribulations and being picked on by a boy with a Transformers lunch box.
Saving the best and most vitriolic outbursts for the song’s heart-stopping outro, Trip, not one for respecting sacred cows, loosens his tongue and takes aim with a barrage of disses fired squarely at the most deserving of targets including soft porn, Bono and people who clap when planes land, all rounded off by a resounding “bollocks”. For the faint of heart there is a clean radio edit that forgoes Trip’s choicest phrasing but keeps both the spirit and objects of his wrath very much intact.
Taken from Trip’s debut album ‘ShortCuts’ that chronicles his adventures in the salubrious surrounds of Holloway Boulevard, ‘Who’s That’ is released through Autonomy Recordings on July 27th.
