Cymbals Eat Guitars self-released their debut album in the US earlier this year with everyone from Pitchfork to The Wrens’ front man, Charles Bissel, heaping praise on the record.
With the band’s debut UK single due for release on August 17th as a limited 7” single via Transparent Records, the quartet have confirmed a string of UK shows in July including a special ‘Rough Trade presents’ night:
Tuesday 7th July –The ICA, London (Rough Trade Records Night)
Wednesday 8th July – Barfly, London
Thursday 9th July – The Windmill, London
Saturday 11th July – Proud Galleries, London
The band’s debut UK single is the album’s opening track, ‘…And The Hazy Sea’ - a sprawling, multi-layered, six minute gate-crasher that acts as a serious statement of intent for the band’s ambitions. A chaotic opening breaks down into lead singer/guitarist Joseph D’Agostino’s restless yelp and sinuous riffs, drummer Matthew Miller’s Wire-y rhythms paired with Neil Berenholz’s melodic bass lines, and the orchestral layers of Brian Hamilton’s keyboards.
The critically acclaimed debut album ‘Why There Are Mountains’ is set for a UK release later this year.
Cymbals Eat Guitars are:
Joseph D’Agostino - Vocals/Guitars
Brian Hamilton - Keyboards
Neil Berenholz - Bass guitar/ Vocals
Matthew Miller - Drums and Percussion
“Remarkably assured” Pitchfork ‘Best New Music’
"Four hustling musicians who'd struck gold on the songwriting front, crafting a beastly, obtuse album." RCRD LBL
"This isn’t just a case of some young band wearing their influences on their sleeves, and offering up a lesser version of their favourite records - these are strong, creative players stretching out and finding their own niche within a rich yet largely unmined aesthetic territory" Fluxblog
