The Rizla Invisible Players tour rolls on to its next party at London’s Victoria Park for The Lovebox Weekender, freshly dusted off after a storming weekend at Rockness festival. Having been one of the stand out arenas at Rockness Festival in Scotland, with the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Toddla T and Beta Band’s Steve Mason, the Rizla Invisible Players have another big weekend planned in the Capital. There’s a huge line-up planned for the Rizla Arena that can be found (or heard!) right in the centre of the site, where last year’s Stockade was. Saturday has an upbeat dance vibe with Invisible Player David Shrigley kicking things off before London favourites Heavenly Jukebox alongside a special guest MC take to the 1920’s musical van. Long running and massively popular London party, Low Life will provide the afternoon soundtrack before the mighty Idjut Boys and X-Press 2 set the arena alight. Sunday continues to crank out the beats with a heavyweight line up, headlined by pioneering US Producer Diplo in a rare UK show. Breakbeat freaks will be excited by the return of 2008 Invisible Player Annie Nightingale, while the London party crowd get served up a huge treat in the form original funky dread, Jazzie B. Round this off with some upbeat, energy tracks from Super Furry’s Gruff Rhys and the sheer lunacy of the phenomenon that is Hip Hop Karaoke and its clear that there’s a serious party planned at the Rizla Arena. For free exclusive set recordings (including Toddla T, Andrew Weatherall, Jazzie B and Jon Carter) plus loads of video and images on Altsounds.com | Independent Music Journalism. There will be lots of free content on the site following Lovebox so check the site to get access to this free material. Jazzie B is really looking forward to playing Lovebox in front of a home crowd, “I love the set up of the arena and playing from the van. The sound system reminds me of the Turbo Sound rig we used with Soul 2 Soul back in the 1980’s. I’m really looking forward to playing to a London crowd on a Sunday afternoon.” Playing from a unique musical van, a recreation of the original Rizla touring van of the 1920’s, The Invisible Players play spontaneous and inspiring sets from a diverse record collection. There are no prepared set lists, just pure improvisation and the creation of a unique vibe in the Rizla Arena. The sound could vary from Dub, Electro, Dancehall, Funk, Hip Hop, Breakbeat to Northern Soul and Acid House – the roots of popular music as we know it. The 2009 tour kicked off with two Rizla Invisible Players club nights in Bristol (Start The Bus, Friday 29th May) and Manchester (The Deaf Institute, Saturday 6th June) before taking Rockness festival by a storm on 12-14th June. After Lovebox (18-19th July), the tour heads to The Big Chill (7-9th August) and Bestival (11-13th September) to complete the festivals. Three more club nights are planned for September to November with a big closing party already being planned. Details to be announced later in the year.
