Levi’s® OnesToWatch® takes up residency at London’s Vibe Bar on Brick Lane from 7th to 10th July with the 2009 5 Night Revue – a showcase of original, creative and cutting-edge music. The week of shows features a dizzyingly talented mix of the most talked about acts who have been causing a stir with the industry and music fans alike.

This event has been curated to showcase a diverse range of music featuring headline performances from the likes of Scottish buzz band Dananananaykroyd, US favourites Hockey, quick up-risers Passion Pit and Everything Everything. There will also be an exclusive fifth night secret gig featuring very special guests, for full details go to www.the-fly.co.uk/lotw

Full Line-up:

Tuesday 7th July: Dananananaykroyd + The Late Greats + Romance
Wednesday 8th July: Passion Pit + Fanfarlo + Apples
Thursday 9th July: Hockey + Chew Lips + Trouble Andrew
Friday 10th July: Everything Everything + Post War Years + Wolf Gang
Plus very special 5th night gig to be announced

The Bands:
Dananananaykroyd
A Glaswegian six-piece with a slightly ridiculous name, Dananananaykroyd are a bunch of indie-rockers. The group have made a name for themselves in the space of only four singles, hailed as "The Best New band In Britain With The Worst Name" by RockSound. The group specialise in the sort of chirpy pop melodies nailed by Foals or the Futureheads on 'Black Wax' and their own brand of 'Fight Pop' on B-side 'No Wage'.

The Late Greats
The seaside town of Eastbourne is the unlikely outpost and home to future alt-rock heroes, The Late Greats. In equal parts intelligent, intense, chaotic and fragile, the four piece have quietly bided their time over the last 12 months, writing their debut album (in between epic bouts of table tennis) thus honing the sound of The Late Greats.
Their debut album "Life Without Balloons" is a record indebted not only to the band’s love of lo-fi US indie/alt-rock (Sonic Youth, Pixies, Pavement) but also stamped with a truly provincial delivery of British square peg bands like XTC, glittering with melodic gold.

Romance
Romance are a 3 piece, post punk ‘gloom-pop’ band from London, formed in November 2008, who have already begun making waves on the East London music scene. Their sound is late seventies goth, and they cite Siouxee and the Banshees, and Southern Death Cult as their influences.

Passion Pit
Passion Pit have carefully-sculpted songwriting on display: the speaker-panning synths and slightly sinister children’s chorus of “Little Secrets” and “The Reeling,” the lead dulcimer loops and melancholic melodies of “Moth’s Wings – all on their debut album Manners. When lead singer Angelakos says he wants to be the next Randy Newman, he’s dead serious.

Fanfarlo
Trapped and spiraling guitars, an insistently hammered piano chord, or an ominous stomp, the fervour with which they play is stirring and infectious… Fanfarlo Baudelaire’s fictional dancer, impossibly desirable, an inescapable object of obsession.

“I always try to write accessible lyrics that people will get and understand, but it always ends up impenetrable,” explains Fanfarlo frontman Simon Balthazar, “then I attempt to write deep, serious and difficult music, and somehow it keeps coming out as pop.”

Apples
Apples herald from what they describe as the fruity capital of British Isles, Hereford. And in this fruity city, they’ve produced music that is pure pop pleasure: perfect for boyfriends and girlfriends who want a soundtrack to a montage compilation of their relationship. Their songs are written with this sense of unity, which mirrors the family element contained within the band: a kind of west side story style dance off with The Vampire Weekend.

Hockey
Signed to Capitol Records in the US and Virgin Records in the UK , Hockey began as a duo, playing at parties and clubs in LA, and have since morphed into a four piece, who ‘marry dance music with real songs that people can remember’. Their sound is somewhere between The Strokes and LCD Soundsystem, and has attracted the attention from the likes of Radio One’s Zane Lowe.

Chew Lips
There is nothing quite usual about Chew Lips, due in no small part to charismatic front woman Tigs. With a stage presence on a par with Karen O, her voice soars, swoops, and smoulders beautifully. Declared by Steve Lamacq as his favourite band of 2008, the bands first single “Solo” was released in March on revered Parisian label Kitsune. Their sound is pop, with a gloriously vivid, almost cinematic sweep, encased in shiny, clattering electronica.

Trouble Andrew
A pro-snow boarder-turned-musician, Trevor Andrew is married to singer Santogold (who played the LOTW stage in 2008). He is an artist well and truly in his own right, with hilarious rhymes like "You're a lush with a crush for the cash pile." The rest of Trouble grows formulaic: tightly wound guitar riffage, propulsive electro beats and Andrew going on in his ambivalent stoner drawl.

Everything Everything

Hailing from Newcastle and Kent but congregating in Manchester, Everything Everything make "unconventional pop at its bravest and best", inspired by everyone from R Kelly to Ezra Pound.

The band grew out of a shared desire to create forward-thinking, diverse music that transforms and reshapes a wide array of disparate influences - Beatles, R. Kelly, Michael Jackson, Steve Reich, Ezra Pound, The Smiths - turning such reference points upside-down and inside-out rather than merely pastiching them, continually challenging convention and cliché with intelligence, melody and wit.

Post War Years

The apparent extrasensory perception or mental telepathy of a Post War Years live set may at first seem inexplicable but is actually very easy to explain. The four-piece grew up together in Leamington Spa and since upping sticks to the capital, they moved in to an abandoned Russian social club together. The almost inseparable lifestyle of Henry (Vox / Guitars / Keys), Simon (Vox/ Guitars/ Keys) Tom (Vox/ Bass) and Fred (Drums) has been the catalyst for a somewhat unique live experience.

Wolf Gang

Wolf Gang is Max McElligott, a part Irish, part German LSE drop out who fell in love with music and out of love with studies. “Mick Jagger dropped out of LSE and it worked for him so I’m taking my chances”. A debonair young blade with a post-modern understanding of pop and a love of opulent sound his debut single was which was sparkles with effortless flair and fizzes with enthusiasm, pushing aside genre boundaries.Currently working with up and coming producer Blue May, Max is recording over the summer.

The 5 Night Revue follows the sell-out success of 2008’s shindig which featured the likes of Metronomy, Bombay Bicycle Bombay Club, Micachu and The Shapes, Broken Records and many other top drawer artists.

The tour headed down to Brighton in May for The Great Escape Festival in Brighton, and for the second year in a row put on the must-see event of the weekend, with a secret set by Babyshambles. Pete Doherty led the charge on a special stage set up in front of Audio overlooking the pier and attracting massive crowds on the street. Other bands that graced the Levi’s® stage included Black Lips, The Soft Pack and Mika Miko.

This year’s Levi’s®OnesToWatch® tour has been one to remember with sell out shows such as the Carnaby street store launch with a special set by White Lies, and gigs in March and April with the likes of The Temper Trap, Underground Railroad and Heartbreak.
