Whether you know it or not, your ears have most likely already been graced by the unique voice of Ayah Marar. Born in Jordan and moving to London when she was 18, Ayah recorded her first pop song ‘Let me Know’ with Calvin Harris in 2004.
This collaboration laid the foundation for Ayah’s songwriting skills and she is now working with Calvin on his new record as well as putting the finishing touches to her own debut album. Her peerless voice is currently in high demand from producers and artists alike and you might also recognise her as the voice behind the chorus to Jack Penate’s recent hit ‘Tonight’s Today’ and forthcoming track ‘Be The One’
Since hitting London Ayah has already made her name as a top female Drum n Bass’s vocalist featuring on major releases, performing across UK and Europe, co-owning the hugely successful Drum and Bass record label ‘Lucky Devil Music’ and is also the voice behind Fabio & Grooverider’s Radio 1 show, but this is just the start…
Ever hungry for more, Ayah began writing her solo album in 2008 working with a wealth of big name producers including Paul Herman, Baby Ash, Paul Epworth, Toddla T and Gill Cang. As people began to hear this new material Ayah was featured in Music Week as one to watch, and also on Tom Robinson’s end of year Christmas show 2008, again, as one to watch in 2009. This has lead to sell out shows across London both as a full band or acoustic performer and Ayah has now been invited to guest on upcoming albums from Jack Penate, Toddla T, Nextmen and Calvin Harris.
‘My Spy’ is the first single from Ayah and shows off not only the wealth of musical influences that pour into her sound, but the fresh style with which she effortlessly pulls this off. Anything from Sizzla to Simon and Garfunkel, Sam Cooke to Rage against the Machine, Prince to Peter Tosh can be found in Ayah’s record collection and there’s a little bit of it all crashing through in her new material. Mixing up cultures and vibrations from east and west the single is already on rotation on MTV Arabia and hitting playlists across the Middle East.
