The utterly intriguing Baddies release their highly anticipated debut in September and it’s a quite brilliant and inspired album. A foot stompingly quirky collection of 12 songs that are complete Indie Disco fodder. It’s clever, witty, off kilter and a near perfect slice of alt-post-punk- pop that flits effortlessly between Talking Heads, Queens Of The Stone Age and has even been compared to the likes of McClusky and Devo.
What a whirlwind year it has been for the band. They are officially playing more European festivals than any other band in the world, with highlights so far including a packed out tent on the John Peel stage at Glasto and a filled to the brim set at the coveted Radio 1’s Big weekend. We are also able to announce a spot at Reading and Leeds too…
Previous singles ‘Battleships’ and the more recent ‘Holler For My Holiday’ have gained huge critical approval with the video staying at number 1 in the MySpace MTV charts for 3 weeks, Radio 1 tastemakers Zane Lowe and Huw Stephens playing tracks repeatedly and bloggers all over the world going bonkers for their anthemic choruses and catchy as hell guitar hooks.
The album was recorded at the prestigious Rockfield studio in Wales where cult legends such as Oasis, Motorhead, Queen, Black Sabbath and Kasabian have all laid albums out. ‘Do The Job’ is testament to their already huge reputation as one of the best live acts to come out of the UK in the past year.
Baddies are a four piece from the new musical mecca of the south east; Southend- On-Sea. Fronted by ‘Robo-punk’ Michael Webster with his distinctive post punk snarling vocals. Also in the band is his identical twin Jim Webster (drums/vocals), Simon Bellamy (guitar/ vocals) and Danny Rowton (vocals/bass). Wanting to start a band that had personality, substance and staying power, they formed Baddies a little over a year ago.
The band wear crisp blue militia shirts, black Levis and Black DM’s even when recording. It’s their way of making a stand at all the ‘style over substance’ bands that have been dominating the airwaves, press and festival bills this year. So crank the album up to 11, put your DMs on and get dancing these are the underdogs for your favourite band this autumn.
