KURT VILE CHILDISH PRODIGY (MATADOR) RELEASED OCT 5th 2009

Matador Records is delighted to announce Philadelphian troubadour Kurt Vile (yes, that's actually his real name) has officially joined the fold and will be releasing his absorbing sophomore record Childish Prodigy on October 5th, 2009.

Childish Prodigy is a rich tapestry of rock and folk sounds, occasionally lo-fi, occasionally lustrous and hitting touchstones from Tom Petty to Street Legal-era Dylan to Spacemen 3 to Skip Spence. More diverse than its predecessor (Constant Hitmaker, released in 2008 via Gulcher and later Woodsist), it ranges from pounding rockers like 'Hunchback' and 'Freak Train' to gorgeous folky numbers like 'Overnite Religion' and the soaring 'Amplifier', even a Dim Stars cover (Richard Hell and Thurston Moore's early '90s supergroup). Childish Prodigy is an album that rewards the persistent listener, revealing itself layer by layer and drawing upon Vile's explorations into rock history.

The first MP3 from Childish Prodigy is the five-minute haunting 'Overnite Religion'. Heavy with hazy acoustic loops, Vile's vocal drawl is intimate yet immediate. To download the track go here.

He's been busy touring like a maniac, playing alongside acts such as Dungen, Conor Oberst, Tykvek, Woods, Blues Control, Real Estate and Coconuts to name a few.

He has no plans to stop soon, so check him out if you haven't already and you'll know what I'm talking about! He'll be playing some dates with EAST SKULL and Crystal Stilts, and will make an appearance at this years FYF Fest in Los Angeles:
