Boston's THE NEW COLLISIONS Open up for BLONDIE & Tours w/ THE B-52's

Boston's THE NEW COLLISIONS Open up for BLONDIE & Tours w/ THE B-52's
The New Collisions unexpected summertime concert jaunt has been extended. What started as a last-minute three-date East Coast swing opening for the B-52s earlier this month has bloomed into a national tour with the legendary new wave act but not before the New Collisions take the stage with BLONDIE this Monday, Aug. 10 in Morristown, N.J.

The partnership began when the B-52s approached the New Collisions to open two of their Massachusetts shows in early August, playing to full houses on Cape Cod and the South Shore. The Boston band was then offered the opportunity to join the B-52s on their national tour, canvassing the coast down to Florida and then stretching northwest to Michigan.

Seeing the connection of classic new-wave and modern new-wave, Blondie then jumped into the game, enlisting the New Collisions as direct support for their upcoming show at The Mayo Center for The Performing Arts in New Jersey. Fronted by platinum-haired singer Sarah Guild, The New Collisions have always cited Blondie as their number one musical influence.

"This all began as a phone call out of the blue to open a local show with The B-52s, one of our favorite bands," says Sarah. "Now we'll be playing across the country with them, and we'll also be direct support for my biggest musical hero of all time. I don't know how this all started, and I don't know how it will end, but I'm incredibly excited."

Along the way, the B-52s tour hits the Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park in Virginia and the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan, a 15,000-capacity venue.

"It's all happening very fast," says Sarah, "and our focus is to get our music to as many people as possible. It's simply amazing that our biggest heroes and influences are putting us on a pedestal."

Just over six months old, The New Collisions have quickly become a fixture in the Boston music scene. Their debut EP, produced by Anthony Resta (Duran Duran, Missing Persons) was released in June to rave reviews and featured Greg Hawkes from The Cars, an early fan of the band, on every track. The sold-out EP Release show garnered full-page articles in The Boston Globe (On a Collisions course with '80s new wave - The Boston Globe) and The Boston Phoenix (The Phoenix > Music Features > Smashing success) and featured Hawkes joining the band on stage. They will be releasing an EP nationally this fall and doing a national tour around the release.

The New Collisions are an exuberant, dancey pop band, with strong melodies, big hooks, and an explosive live show. Early 60s and new wave influences meet to create accessible yet challenging music with a lyrical punch and strong female vocals.

The B-52s tour itinerary with the New Collisions includes:

Aug. 8 at Wolf Trap National Park in Vienna, VA;
Aug. 12 at Innsbrook Pavilion in Glen Allen, VA;
Aug. 16 at Sunrise Theatre in Ft. Pierce, FL;
and Aug. 20 at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkson, MI.
