‘Alexander’ is the debut single from Kent based 4 piece Elephants. From the outset, this positively charged quartet create an instant sense of urgency as the track bursts out of the starting blocks at break neck speed like an Elephant out of Hell.
At a little under a year old, Elephants are like one of those child prodigies or genius kids you see in a Channel Four documentary. From their inception last September, in a practice room somewhere in Kent, the band showed early signs of exceptional promise, which lead to them making their live debut just a few short weeks later. Since then the band have carried on at a pace as blisteringly fast as their guitar riffs picking up ringing endorsements along the way from Radio 1’s legend Steve Lemacq and Huw Stephens.
The original idea for the band came about in the summer of 2008 when front man Owen, and guitarist Tom decided to form a band. Calling on friend Dean to play the bass for them, they were left with the often-arduous task of finding a drummer. After posting an ad on Myspace, they found 16 year old British Ski squad member George; who then sold his ski’s in order to pay for his drum-kit.
After only a few months as a band, they were picked as one of Radio 1 stalwart Steve Lemacqs ‘Ones to Watch’ for 2009 and subsequently called in to record a session/ interview for the rapidly rising successor of John Peels throne, Huw Stephens. Stephens suggested Elephants for the line-up at Radio 1’s Big weekend in Swindonand later ended up excitedly introducing them on the day.
Their animated and enthusiastic live shows are full of youthful charm and have won them a dedicated following of fans around the country which will only increase with the release of this fantastic single. Move over Dumbo, Horton and Babaar, there’s some new Elephants in town that look set to steal the lime light.
