Brooklyn resident, Gary War is a one-man phantasmagoria of swooshing spectral pysch pop haze. With his debut album, New Raytheonport, (Shdwply Records) he spins gaseous cobwebs of bubblegum and pinches from the dense, pyschedelic mass of the '70s FM sound to create the a platform for New Weird American Pysch!

Written, performed and recorded by Gary War on a Tascam 488. Gary War began in the late 1990s when he started recording cassettes at home in Cambridge, MA, while still at high school. By 2004 Gary had moved to Los Angeles, shared a practice space with Robert Robinson of Sore Eros and collaborated with him on a number of recordings, most of which were never released; though some tracks did find their way onto a few self-released CD-R compilations, which also featured collaborations with Kurt Vile (The War on Drugs) and were put out on their own Light Dead Sea label.

In early 2008 Gary moved back to the east coast, settling in Brooklyn to continue his Gary War. He also began a collaboration with Blank Dogs front-man Mike Sniper called Roman Soldiers.

‘Gary War creates a sound that wisps through the knobby branches of the past and sumptuously uproots our notions of the boundaries of psychedelia’ Victim of Time

‘Like Ariel Pink, War drenches exaggerated melodies in a glutinous bath of effects, melting them to crumbs afloat in the balmy breeze.’ LA Weekly
