Altsounds - Shelley Short Releases New Mp3 & Announces Contest for Limited Edition Vinyl

Everybody’s favorite Portland songbird Shelley Short is pleased to announce the availability of a new mp3 off of her forthcoming release, A Cave, A Canoo, out 10/13 on Hush Records. The churning, half-titular piano ballad “A Cave” is available here for listening/downloading. Lose yourself in its resonance.

As previously mentioned, a limited edition vinyl version of A Cave, A Canoo will be released through Anonymous Records. Shelley would be remiss if people thought she was the only artistic member of the Short clan. Her brother, Faulkner, is an amazingly talented photographer, and is responsible for the unique images that grace the covers of the limited edition vinyl. Faulkner has this to say about his creative process:

“The cover images for A Cave, A Canoo LP were hand printed (optically) in an edition of 300. Most of the 25 different images were taken with a Zero Image 6x6 pinhole camera in places such as Portland, OR, Astoria, OR, Long Beach, WA, Paris, FR, Chicago, IL, and Colonia, Uruguay. I have been taking pictures for almost 20 years, show regularly, and am part of The Portland Grid Project, Lightleak, and I work for Blue Moon Camera and Machine. Eric Isaacson, came to me with the idea to use my original prints as covers to the records. It was a really exciting idea to me, because i had not seen a record like that since my Dad's copy of a hand painted jazz record he had purchased in the 1960s from an add in Downbeat magazine. I hope to keep film and optical prints alive through projects like this. The entire series of photos are scheduled to be on display in Astoria, OR in 2010.”

These super-limited edition LPs are available only from Shelley at her shows or at select independent record stores. However, there is another way. . .

Being a lover of all things adorable and/or fuzzy, Shelley opens her email everyday, hoping that friend or loved one has sent her a picture of a pet dressed in a wildly hilarious costume or embroiled in a similarly hysterical situation. Let’s just say some days are better than others. That’s why Shelley has announced a contest where the person who sends in the most knee-slappingly adorable photo of their pet will win a copy of said limited edition vinyl! The contest will be judged by Shelley herself, along with an esteemed panel of critter-cuteness connoisseurs.Please send all submissions to petportraits09@gmail.com. No animals should be harmed in the making of these pictures (obviously!). The winner will be announced October 1st, so make sure to get your pet portrait in before then.

Finally, Just a reminder that Shelley will be embarking on her month-and-change long tour this weekend, beginning on the west coast, spiraling through the country, and culminating in her record release show at Holocene in her home town of Portland. Make sure to check her out in a town near you, and don’t forget to pick up the limited edition vinyl while there.
