Specimen Products, Ian Schneller’s world-renowned company known for building superior custom guitars, tube amplifiers, and horn speakers for over 20 years, as well as the home of The Chicago School of Guitar Making, is pleased to present their newest sculptural form – the Little Horn Speakers! Larger versions of these Little Horns have graced the stages alongside Andrew Bird at Carnegie Hall, Chicago’s Lyric Opera House, Radio City Music Hall, Hollywood Bowl, Chicago’s Millennium Park and have been featured on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the Late Show with David Letterman, and Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

The Design & Construction:
Cast in heavy-duty fiberglass and beautifully finished in lacquer, the horns come in a variety of color finishes allowing them to fit into any décor. Horns are also available primed white to serve as a blank canvas for one’s own personal embellishment or decorative ideas. The horns are built atop a cube base constructed out of heavy-duty Baltic Birch plywood and also finished in lacquer. The base houses the driver and acts as a compression chamber for the horn.

Audio Performance:
With the Little Horn Speakers, the soundstage gets bigger, the instruments spread apart, and the stage unfolds. A special inverted design enables the low frequencies to emerge at the top of the enclosure. An octagonally fluted horn carries them upward and lets them flourish into the room. There is simply something beautiful here, not just bass frequency reproduction, but a spatial imaging that belies the speaker’s size.

The horns can be used with almost any stereo system and because of their great efficiency, are also uniquely suited to low-power (10-watts or less per channel) single-ended triode (SET) tube amplifiers— a standard for audiophiles everywhere.
The Little Horn Speakers come with a choice of Fostex full-range drivers providing various performance levels, efficiencies, and power handling capabilities. The Fostex drivers used were chosen specifically based on their proven performance in a great variety of experimental designs. For instance, those who are familiar with the legendary Fostex FE-103E will hear this driver in an entirely new way. Alternately, the cutting edge FE-108 Sigma is a beautiful cast-frame driver with a radical new cone design providing a particularly even frequency response and greater power handling capability. These Fostex drivers perform effortlessly in the Specimen Little Horns and present a unique soundstage that gives listeners a brand new intimate three-dimensional audio experience.
