Oxjam Cardiff is back and is taking part in the UK's biggest ever music festival, with their most ambitious undertaking to date; a flagship multi-venue event in the heart of Cardiff City Centre called Oxjam Cardiff Takeover. Oxjam is a unique music experience that aims to stage music events around the country to raise money and awareness for Oxfam’s ‘Here & Now’ Climate Change Campaign spanning the month of October.
At 2pm on 11th October 2009 the Oxjam Cardiff Takeover kicks off and promises to be a fun packed, music filled, awareness generating festival of epic proportions crammed into a one day multi-venue event. Encompassing venues such as Clwb Ifor Bach, Toucan, Dempseys and Y Fuwch Goch on Cardiff's legendary Womanby Street, music lovers will find a wide range of music to quench their musical appetite; such as Indie, Rock, Hip Hop, Urban and Folk.
For the small volunteer team organising the event, ensuring that attendees get access to more artists and venues than ever before is a challenge, " We want to provide a great experience for everyone who comes along to the Oxjam Cardiff Takeover. The energy and commitment of the co-ordinators and our volunteers has been really inspiring, and we hope that we can translate our passion into a fantastic festival, which also highlights the crucial work of Oxfam by raising funds and awareness for their 'Here & Now' Climate Change Campaign. Last year, the South East Wales region raised £6000 for Oxfam, a target that we would love to smash this year!" says Oxjam Cardiff Regional Manager Gemma White.
Artists are yet to be confirmed but the team is working hard at sourcing a great line up of local and non-local artists, including English and Welsh Language artists.
Admission to all shows by Oxjam Cardiff Takeover Festival Wristband Only and are subject to age (18+) and capacity restrictions.
Tickets cost £8 advance and can be bought at: WeGotTickets - Your Online Box Office or a number of local retail outlets. Subject to availability there will be a limited number of tickets on the door priced at £10.
The Oxjam Cardiff team are still recruiting music-lovers to host their own events throughout October, as well as performers and volunteers to help out at events. If you’re interested in taking part in the festival this October, please email oxjam.cardiff@googlemail.com
