Ramona Gonzalez has been casting a mesmerising spell over listeners as her alter ego Nite Jewel, creating gorgeously dusty, twilit disco pop which conflates the lo-fi avant garde shapes of Ariel Pink and his West Coast contemporaries with a deep seated love of Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Debbie Deb and the like. Her debut album “Good Evening” has already earned critical acclaim stateside (with Fader calling it “nostalgic and disconcerting”), and will be released on tastemaking label No Pain in Pop this month.
To celebrate the release, the label are throwing a massive launch party at Cargo, with some very special guests indeed. So besides the rare treat of Nite Jewel playing her debut London show, there will also be live performances from glacial disco pop duo Golden Filter and dream-glitch wunderkind Gold Panda, as well as DJ slots from Joy Orbison, whose “Hyph Mngo” is destined to be the crossover underground anthem of the year, renowned Parisian electro producer Mikix the Cat and, of course, No Pain in Pop themselves.
