THE UPWELLING An American Stranger OUT NOW
Summer saw the full-length debut by brothers Ari Ingber and Joshua Ingber, better known as New York rock outfit The Upwelling. With the release of An American Stranger (Edmond Records/Doghouse Records), The Upwellingis positioned to become America’s favorite new band. The Upwelling have recently embarked on a "Vigilante Tour" following the current Blink 182 and All American Rejects tour. The Ingber brothers planned the impromptu tour with All American Rejects frontman Tyson Ritter while in NYC for Fashion Week. The band will be setting up their own stage and gear to play to fans in the parking lot before the scheduled gig begins. So if you are already headed out to this tour you are in for a great free pre-show! Full tour dates are below and be sure to follow The Upwelling on Twitter to see how each parking lot show goes, provided they don't get arrested.

Before record labels began taking notice of The Upwelling'sear-catchingpowerhouse sound, the brothers Ingber were turning heads with their 2005 self-released and self-promoted EP. The collection of songs earned itself a place on Virgin Megastore's "Virgin Recommends" series (a first for an unsigned band and for an EP) and secured the honor of Spin.com's "Underground Band of the Year.” Soon fellow musicians were taking notice. Without an agent the band secured tours with the All-American Rejects in the U.S., U.K., and Europe, as well as a slot as the sole support on Third Eye Blind's 10-year anniversary tour. The Upwelling also found themselves sharing stages with the likes of Metric, Ben Kweller, the Wrens, The Stills, We Are Scientists and VHS or Beta. Their fledgling relationships in the music community led them to their signing with the All-American Rejects' label Edmond Records, a subsidiary of indie stalwart Doghouse Records. Not content to merely take the band on tour or pull strings within the music industry, friends and fans Jason Hill (Louis XIV), Stephan Jenkins (Third Eye Blind) and Tyson Ritter (The All-American Rejects) joined in the creative process, each with multiple production credits on the record.
Noteworthy collaborations aside, the musical fiber of The Upwelling is the work of principle songwriter Ari Ingber (vocals/guitar) and the support of his brother Joshua Ingber (drums). While many found reasons to shelter and disconnect themselves in the wake of 9/11, Ari instead felt the proclivity to create, and began writing songs as a means of dealing with the immense tragedy he, and his fellow New Yorkers, faced. Ari’s relationship with music suddenly became all-consuming and Josh soon found a “fixer-upper” apartment, using the basement to build a small studio where they began their first recordings. An American Stranger is an astoundingly diverse and masterfully cohesive record that pushes the boundaries of modern rock music. The album thrives where subtle textures meet towering anthems and is unapologetic in its honesty and refreshingly straightforward delivery. The musicboldly and swiftly transition from soaring vocals and guitars in tracks “The Garden” and “My Worthy Enemy” to the restrained groove of “I Love That Girl” to summertime pop perfection in stand-outs “American Girls” and “Wanderlust.”
