One Little Indian is extremely pleased to announce that Kathryn Williams has signed a new deal with the label and will release her new album ‘The Quickening’ on February 22nd next year. The new record was recorded at Bryn Derwen studio in North Wales ‘in four days, all live, three takes maximum’ Kathryn explained to Mojo magazine earlier this year. Co-produced with David Wrench, the album introduces samples into Kathryn’s acoustic folk and contains some of her sharpest song writing to date. ‘It has a mood’, she says ‘a slightly sinister palette with lyrics that are raw. I see myself in the songs a lot, whereas before I invented characters.’

The deal will also see the release of archive material, a children’s record made with Anna Critchley ‘with songs about robots in the rain, sweets on the floor and pirates taking over buses’, and the debut by Kathryn’s band The Ish Inventors (‘as in it’s kettle-ish, or it’s bird-ish’). The album in progress is being made with Nev Clay, a songwriter and poet Kathryn has worked with as an artist in residence - has been in gestation three or four years, ‘We have a manifesto and everthing!’ Kathryn enthuses, ‘our manifesto is about trying to patent our inventions through song, but we’ve recorded lots of songs about how difficult it is to invent something…’

Kathryn also has five autumn shows lined up, which she will perform with double bass player Simon Edwards (who played on Kathryn’s ‘Leave To Remain’ album with Neil MacColl). Kathryn is promising sets ‘of lots of songs I haven't played in a while!’ The dates are:

24th October - Masham Town Hall 01765 680 200
26th October - Bury The Met 0161 761 2216
27th October – London Dingwalls 08700 600 100
28th October – Bracknell Cellar Bar 01344 484 123
29th October - Exeter- Phoenix

10th November - Lincoln Terry O'Toole Theatre 01522 883 311
