We are pleased to announce the jam packed schedule for this years Liverpool Music festival and unleash the highly anticipated free music agenda.

The festival which kicks off on 29th October and runs through to 16th November is now in its 7th year, and has grown from a single venue event to a burgeoning nationally recognised event and has become the UK’s biggest indoor winter music festival and attracted some of the worlds biggest acts. This year’s line up is by far the biggest and most diverse to date, covering every genre imaginable from rock, indie, dance, folk, leftfield and beyond. Acts already confirmed to perform include The Specials (Sold Out!), Kasabian, Seasick Steve, Calvin Harris, Super Furry Animals, The Enemy, Reverend & The Makers, The Enemy, The Gallows and Brand New Heavies.

However, the ethos behind the festival still remains, which is to support new music and offer a performance platform for fresh emerging talent, in fact LMW has catapulted the careers of many artistes that have gone onto dominate the airwaves and music press. This year is no different, as well as the big name acts there is a world of entertainment to be discovered at the array of free shows which will be happening across 20 city centre venues during the 2 week festival.

Highlights include Wild Beasts @ Alma on Tuesday 3rd November who are set for international success next year, and this year received a 5* review in the Sunday Times for their highly acclaimed album. For the dance heads, BBC Radio 1 favourite Jaguar Skills performs live for his LMW debut at Bumper on 14th November. At The Masque we welcome Kurt Cobain’s hero & favourite songwriter Daniel Johnston, an artiste with 30 albums already under his belt, this will be his debut at the festival and is set to be one of the biggest events on the LMW calendar, he will be performing his set with members of Wave Machines & Hot Club De Paris as his backing band.

Maps will be making their LMW debut at Bumper on 7th November and will be performing material from their Mercury nominated new album. Bombay Bicycle Club make their LMW debut performing a free show at The Masque on 4th November, 2009 has been their biggest year to date, with a summer of high profile events they managed to beat off La Roux & White Lies as NME Readers ‘Best 2009 new festival band’. Adding some ‘blues’ flavour to the diversity of this years festival is Son Of Dave, who we’ve secured to perform before he heads off to America to record his new album with legendary producer Steve Albini. The Klaxons favourite new band Chrome Hoof make their Liverpool debut with full 12 piece band, expect a futuristic disco performance. After a 3 year hiatus The Rumble Strips return to perform material from their new album following their sell out 02 Academy event back in 2007. Other free show highlights on the bill include Crazy P, Killa Kela, Field Music, Grammatics, The Holloways, Jay Reatard, Dananananakroyd, and Israel funk band - The Apples and ALL FOR FREE!. Local highlights include Sound Of Guns, Screaming Lights, Hot Club De Paris, Wave Machines and The Vanities.

Bumper & Alma de Cuba return as host venues and for the first time will be joined by the newly refurbished Masque. All 3 venues will be hosting free events each day for the 2 week festival. New venue additions includes include INK which will feature more free shows new radar artistes such as Ou Est le Swimming Pool, Marina & the Diamonds, Detroit Social Club, Broken Records, Blue Roses. Other new venue additions include Mojo and Newz bar, all join the traditional LMW venues such as Korova, Zanzibar, Magnet & The Metropolitan.

Our fine city is internationally renowned for its rich musical heritage and passionate and music loving community, and Liverpool music week is the annual celebration of what has always made this city tick. A festival that sets the precedent and continues to attract and inspire new music, and year on year helps to affirm Liverpool’s position as the music capital of the world.

I am going to guess Marina & The Diamonds but I would see Daniel Johnston, personally.

Also, this seems a little like Liverpool trying to outdo their friendly neighbours' own In The City. I could be wrong of course.
