Kartel can announce the official UK release of Tommy T's debut album ' The Prester John Sessions' to be released
on US label Easy Star Records on January 25th and exclusively available on I tunes now.
Dub, jazz and Tommy's
super-charged and outer-worldly big band
all lend a hand in turning the page of Ethiopia's next musical chapter
featuring guest vocalists Gigi (Palm
Pictures) & Eugene Hutz (Gogol Bordello)

Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethopia's capital city, Tommy T is best known for his accomplished bass plucking for
gypsy punk group, Gogol Bordello. It is to his proud heritage that Tommy dedicates 'The Prester John Sessions' - the
story of an unknown Christian King who symbolises Tommy's mission to bring Ethiopian culture to the fore.

Tommy composed and produced the music, along with his brother Henock. The tracks were written at Tommy's
home studio, cut live in studios around Washington, DC, and overdubs were laid down in real time with a final mix by
Victor Van Vugt (Nick Cave, Gogol Bordello) giving it the feel of Herbie Hancock's Headhunters jamming with Ethiopian
godfathers, The Imperial Bodyguard Orchestra.

"In the 70s, funk, wah-wah pedals, and jazz had a huge impact on Ethiopian music," Tommy explains. "The Prester John
Sessions will give people an idea about the musical diversity of Ethiopia, which includes influences and ideas borrowed
from the sounds of the 70's with the added bonus of up-to-date production values."

A refined and soulful debut and one that will have you swinging on the rafters.

Gogol Bordello's bass player Tommy T announces
his solo debut album exploring his Ethiopian roots
and culture.
