Penguin Prison has already started to get the ball rolling with a brilliant remix of the Marina And The Diamonds track ‘I Am Not A Robot’ that has already lit up the blogs in the past few weeks. Add to that re-workings of Erik Hassle and Golden Silvers and officially you have an internet buzz.
Now comes his own material. ‘Animal Animal’ is sharp electronic pop from a man with a unique musical background. It’s a brilliant, daring pop single, reminiscent of Hot Chip with dashes of Quincy Jones production, and inspired by fellow New Yorkers such as Holy Ghost!. It’s a neon-lit slice of daring electronic pop, with cool synth lines and great melodies.
Channeling inspirations such as Quincy Jones and early hip-hop, he’s already caught the ear of Q-Tip and Mark Ronson, both of whom are confessed fans. The single comes backed with ‘A Funny Thing’, whilst look out for the remix of ‘Animal Animal’ by up-and-coming remixer Jakwob, who marries the dirty bass of dubstep and pop melodies with rousing results.
