‘Over Time’ is the debut single from London band, WILD PALMS. Suffice to say it’s an anticipated release amongst those in the know, as the band, Lou, Gareth, James and Darrell have created somewhat of a following since their conception a year ago.
All in separate bands at the time, one day the like minded friends from North London decided to pile into a studio to experiment. This meeting of musical minds became a regular occurrence and as they honed their collective ideas, the other bands fell by the way side.
Lou explains, “From then on we took our time in the studio, working each other out and trying to settle on our sound naturally because we had no preconceived ideas of what we were going to do…it was important for the band to bide our time and concentrate on writing, get our sound and dynamic sorted first.”
The whole band are self-taught which has naturally lead to the development of their own individual and unique sound. “We don't know the right scales, drum patterns etc and so therefore are not constrained or limited by them"
Not part of any particular scene, WILD PALMS are unique, refreshing and serious about what they do. The four of them introspectively work out of a studio they built themselves from scratch – ultimately meaning that they need never compromise their sound with the restraints of time, money or poor equipment.
Art is a huge influence on them as a band. Lou’s writing style and the composition of the music is intertwined with their interest and appreciation of art. As their resident artist Darrell adds another dimension to their music be it creating merch, packaging or their distinctive canvas backdrop which they take everywhere with them when touring. The visual elements of them as a band are as important as the music itself.
