The Echo Session are celebrating the release of their new credit crunch anthem single 'Tell Me' and forthcoming album 'Time and Money' by pulling off a series of daring bank jobs! They launched their new single by belting it out outside the Royal Bank of Scotland HQ in Glasgow on October 3rd, complete with protesters carrying placards featuring Fred Goodwin. Check out the video on:
The band continued their bank tour on October 16th at the Royal Bank Of Scotland, St Enoch Square, Glasgow. Further bank gigs are planned, with a tour of further RBS branches in the pipeline.
The Echo Session's frontman Tam Maher spoke about the band's aims -
"We’re sick of greedy MP’s and immoral bankers. We want to shame some of the greedy people who are prospering in the credit crunch. The rich are getting rich, the poor are getting poorer. We think it's time someone made a stand against these parasites."
When asked by The Sun what he'd say to Fred Goodwin if he met him, Tam answered
"I'd ask him to buy 700,000 copies of our single. Which of course equals 1 year's pension for Mr Goodwin."
Scotland’s best-kept secret The Echo Session recently signed with Flowers In The Dustbin, Scotland’s vibrant new indie label. The band have played gigs around the UK for the last few years gathering a semi legendary status. A combination of lifestyle and a notorious perfectionism have prevented the band from releasing any recordings. Until now!
Being long time admirers the label are extremely excited to be working with The Echo Session. And why? Stephen McKee, manager of Flowers In The Dustbin, said ‘to put it simply, we’d compare this to signing The Kinks’. Song writing on a par with Ray Davies, The Pretty Things, The Coral and The La’s,
The Echo Session already have a legendary vault of recordings, and have recently been recording tracks with original Glasvegas engineer Jim Neilson.
The debut album is scheduled for release early 2010.
The Echo Session have already picked up airplay on BBCRadio Scotland, XFM and Radio Clyde.
Based in Glasgow, the band describes their history as follows: A meets B in an orrible orrible call centre with an initial vision of a quirky beat sound with contagious harmonies. C joins the band with an agenda of rootsy rockin and impressions of the "burd" and "quentin". Last but not least D, our very own drummer man superhero, joined after a lengthy assignment with local bands "about time timmy!" and "Red Leicester".
The first of The Echo Session’s new recordings to see the light of day, the credit crunch anthem Tell Me, is a melodic tale of fat cat bankers, expense account fiddling MP’s, and ripped off ordinary folk. The question ‘Tell Me Where The Money’s At?’ resonates not only through this song, but in our every day lives right now.
The single 'Tell Me' is available now from itunes and all major download stores for the credit crunch-busting price of 79p.
