STEVE MARTIN TO PLAY THE ROYAL FESTIVAL HALL ON NOVEMBER 9, 2009
Award-winning actor, comedian and film star, STEVE MARTIN is also a Grammy Award-winning musician, heralded as a bluegrass player of note who has collaborated with heavyweights of the genre including Earl Scruggs and also featuring on his album Vince Gill and Dolly Parton. Master of the difficult five-fingered playing style known as clawhammer, Steve Martin APPEARS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE UK for an evening of banjo and bluegrass music with comedy asides; with his bluegrass band – THE STEEP CANYON RANGERS – performing tracks from his acclaimed NEW ALBUM: The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo. (Monday, 9 November, Royal Festival Hall, 7.30pm, Tickets £55 £40 £25).

– After charity shows in Los Angeles and New York and an appearance at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, Steve Martin has been on the road in support of The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo, which currently sits at the top of the Billboard Bluegrass Album Chart. After a successful run with a limited release, multi-talented Grammy® and Emmy® winning actor/comedian/musician and bestselling author Steve Martin released the album on Rounder Records 29th July. Rounder also released a deluxe pop-up version of the album, on June 16 which sold out immediately and will now be followed by a similarly awe inspiring yellow vinyl LP in December.

The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo (Rounder) has reached #1 on Billboard’s Top Bluegrass Albums chart. In support of the album Martin has appeared on The Prairie Home Companion, American Idol’s season finale, Saturday Night Live, Good Morning America, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, CBS Early Show, Tavis Smiley and Late Night With David Letterman. All of the songs on The Crow were written by Martin. Whilst in the UK Steve will be performing on Later With Jools Holland and The Culture Show will feature excerpts from his London Show.
